The guilder is hard currency (and therefore of negligible mass). It has the equivalent base value of 1 stellar though cannot be used directly to pay personnel due to them not using the money in the place they work. Guilders are therefore treated as per other trade goods.
The guilder (or its equivalent) is often paid directly to star captains by civilians for either services or goods.
They also have use for developing planetary infrastructure beyond initial colonisation by bolstering fledgling economies.
