Eritrea
As expected the Starbase Eritrea has been safely recaptured and transferred to AFT hands.
Hospitals across the Peripheries are reporting increased admissions of patients suffering from shock, as the IGN offices rush to reassure readers that the concept of "AFT", "ground assault" and "victory" in the same report is neither an error nor an April fool.
According to KAS sources they do not want the Starbase back, and are quite happy for it to remain in the AFT. One grumpy Kastorian Colonel commented to Inter-Galactic news reporters that they ‘Never wanted the stupid stinking place anyway, pirates did us a favour, and don’t you scum in the press suggest anything else!’
In related news the Kastorian Military Junta continue to angrily deny allegations that their military machine is about as much use as a wet Falconian Goose.

Pompeii
The situation on the ground in Pompeii is still unknown as pirate forces continue their occupation of the installation.
Pirate Large has made the following broadcast, confirming reports that he was indeed behind the attack and that a significant quantity of high-tech was captured:
“Ahharrgghhhh me hearties………….. It be aye…………. Pirate Large……..
It be an eventful couple o weeks aye it be, an I can reports wiv yee that I as indeed gone an attacked SMS Pompeii. On stardate 208.13.1 when me boys readied them selves, cutless in hand to attack the base Pompeii.
We was hopin to capture the one armed bandit imself who runs the SMS, an a leadin member of the aptf, and use his knackers as marbles, [censored]
The attack started well an we pushed ard for 4 days an tooks the base, it wer noted that the SMS tried to drop the shield an kill all their own, but they failed aye they did.
One of me pirates decided retirin was in order and stayed in the quad to try n holds off the incoming hoards o the aptf, an a new friend in the piracy line, wolf pack ad a couple of his ships come to me aid in trying to stops the aptf. A short battle in the quad resulted in the loss o a few o the boys, a tipple o rum to thee.

This as left me a base wiv plenty o new tech an other such goodies to aids in me piratin.
On entering the main technology area, it be pitch dark aye, an I used me torch to locate the goodies. On finding the photon cannons mk IV bps I tooks them out, when out of the darkness a voice said “Jesus is watching you”.
I jumped out a me skin aye I did, an switched off me torch waitin to make sure there was no trap.
After a few minutes I decided to carry on an switched on me torch and tooks the photon guns mk IV bps, when out o the darkness a voice quite clear said “Jesus is watching you”
Well I shits me sen and looks around frantically lookin for the source o the voice, and there be a parrot in the corner in a cage. I said to thee parrot aye, would it be you who is talkin.
The Parrot replied yes, and I asked him what be his name, an he said “Moses”.
I laughed arrgg, an said what sort o pratt would name his parrot “Moses”, an the parrot replied.
The same sort o pratt that would call his rottweiler “Jesus”
Ahharrgghhhhh………..

Anyways once I patched up me wounds we tooks the job lot o tech, an piracy be going up a further notch aye alongside the tech we half inched from Freedom City not so longs ago.
Ill tell yee more news as it comes……….
Anyways im sure you will hear more from the glorious adventures of the pirate ship Large (and friends) ahharrggghhhh....”

There has however been some measure of good news for the SMS, as a covert operation was able to rescue the workers and crews from four outposts that were under heavy fire from the pirates who had taken over the Pompeii defensive artillery batteries.
Unfortunately the outposts, following several days of bombardment have now been reduced to rubble and a scattering of equipment.

Earth News
As our reporters now have greater access to news sources within the Inner Empire, we are able to pick up more and more details on what has been happening in that long cut-off region of space. And the news continues to be bad.
This weeks report comes from the African continent, which remains riven by internecine conflict. Our reporters have learnt that local African tribal warlords are demanding supplies of small arms and tanks from the newly arrived Periphery powers in exchange for their co-operation.
It seems Periphery governments will have to tread carefully if they are to avoid making the situation on Earth even worse than it already is.

New Director
Duke Gregor Konstantin has been appointed Imperial Research Director in place of vice Duke Lee Fairchild, who has retired from active duty in the peripheries

Twilight
There have been a number of skirmishes and incidents in the Twilight Periphery this week, with FLZ defence forces intercepting and destroying an SMS scout that was attempting to transit the stargate. The SMS Collier was detected by the FLZ platform Cliriq Sentinal One, and promptly destroyed.
An SMS ground party is also understood to have been destroyed somewhere in the Twilight Periphery.
And as we go to press we understand a second SMS vessel has been destroyed whilst attempting to transit the Stargate.

VSC
Following reports of the death of General Harrold Sanchez last week, followed by reports that he was still alive, and then more reports that he really genuinely had died of a sudden short illness, our reporters have been calling back to check the veracity of the story with the Generals secretary, a different person from the last time. The story was confirmed, and the secretary expressed how sad the whole thing was.
When asked what disease the general had died of he replied, "No, I do not know the disease name. It was in medical terminology I do not comprehend.” He then asked our reporter what she was doing Friday evening.
Our crack reporting team here at the IGN news offices suspect something slightly odd is happening on the tropical island paradise planet of Vehrenberg.

Pompeii
A brave yet foolhardy regiment of RIP troops has launched an attack against the pirates heavily entrenched at Pompeii. Information is still not clear, but it seems as if over a thousand troopers may have died. Whether they were expecting to have been supported in their action, or perhaps it was a small skirmish that went wrong when the entire regiment was sucked in, we still do not know.
Early reports indicate that the RIP troopers may have been attempting to launch a rescue operation of a group of civilians who were being tortured by the bloodthirsty pirates.

Pompeii
More from Pompeii, with alarming news from Pirate Large that he has captured a quantity of chemical weapons from the Starbase:
“ahharrgghh me hearties......... it be aye............... Pirate Large.............
It be noted that a few o yee be poppin off a few shots at Pompeii, i is givin you notice that the Chemical poison the sms stockpiled at this base will be injected along with a bit o pork from me boys within 24 hours to the civilians of the base.
the civies be strapped down ready and me boys as been avin a crackin time, an i dare say some o the SMS birds as been enjoyin a bit o ruff, but if any attacks continue then they will all die a horrible death and stuck on pikes at the base entrance alongs wiv the 1500 APTF soldiers slaughtered yesterdays durin a futile attack.
the stench be gettin orrible now from them aptf, an the dead ones dont smell good either..........
i thanks thee for thy attention aye.....
Anyways im sure you will hear more from the glorious adventures of the pirate ship Large (and friends) ahharrggghhhh....”

Piracy
A number of small pirate scouting parties have launched simultaneous attacks against four Detinus Republic installations throughout the Peripheries. It is suspected Pirate Large might be looking for a soft target to continue his recent extraordinary run of success.
Hidden Abyss, Onyx, Opportunity, and Retreat all reported victories over the pirates. Although Hidden Abyss has reported difficulties in getting over 20,000 alien attack animals back under control after the whole lot were accidentally let loose to chase after a single pirate mercenary.

Prisoner Of War
Rumours are circulating that the Flagritz Empire may have taken a high profile Consortium member prisoner. There has been no official comment from either side.

Disaster At Pompeii
Efforts to retake the Starbase Pompeii have hit another serious hurdle this week.
A hidden SMS outpost on the planet was spotted by pirate observers, as a number of SMS freighters landed to deliver troops and tanks to the waiting Defence Force on planet. The pirate artillery opened fire and five SMS freighters were caught on the ground and destroyed, with heavy damage being done to the outpost and the ground parties that were forming up at the time.
It is understood the situation could have been even worse, as the previous day there were even more freighters present making deliveries to the combined APTF ground force being put together at the outpost, including the IMP and CIA.
The SMS/APTF ground party prompted scattered for cover, it’s immediate whereabouts are unknown, but it is thought to be attempting to close with the pirate artillery, preferring to charge into a one-sided combat in an attempt to rescue Pompeii rather than be destroyed piecemeal by long range fire.
Following the destruction of the RIP ground party previously reported, and this incident, it seems the civilians under the ruthless control of the pirates may have to suffer a while longer before they can be rescued. With Pirate Large having surely taken months of preperation work before his attack, the APTF are clearly struggling to put together a similar operation in the space of just weeks.
During this action a pirate Scout ship was destroyed via unknown action in orbit. It is thought a DEN patrol intercepted it.

QNG Protest
The QNG Have issued the following press release following recent Consortium incursions into Twilight:
“The QNG protest the SMS incursion this week into the Twilight
periphery and ask that future incursions cease. In the Twilight
periphery, we have finally found refuge for the remnants of the hive
that were nearly exterminated by a xenophobic humanity. A humanity
that has always shown time and again, their hostility against that
which they don't understand. Since being forced from Fake, we have
tried to find a home. Only the FLZ offered us sanctuary.

We have been permitted to claim space for our own in the Twilight
Periphery. We finally have an area where the QNG queens may live
freely without the threat of annihilation which has happened in the
too recent past. We should be justly territorial in this instance
and insist that the SMS not try to invade without permission. We
need to state that we are only defending access to our queens. We
have shown by our actions in trade (we trade peacefully with
everyone) and cooperation (Our assistance with the APTF), that we
bear no malice towards the nations of the peripheries. We have not
initiated a single hostile action, with the exception of pirate
interdiction. We ask to be allowed to live in peace in the TP and we
will vigorously defend ourselves against unwarranted incursions. The
FLZ support our protection in the TP and we stand with them there to
ensure our mutual security. Is it too much to ask to be left alone?

We call on the SMS and the Consortium to resolve their issues with
the FLZ, or at best take their conflict elsewhere and leave us alone.”
Consortium spokes-sentients have responded by stating that their war is against the Flagritz, and they will not go out of their way to target QNG positions.

Chemical Weapons At Pompeii

The battle continues at Pompeii as Pirate artillery maintains its barrage against SMS installations on the planet.
There was one significant development last week when a massive strike force of heavy Dewiek warships entered orbit and commenced bombarding the Starbase. Killing two mercenaries in the process.
In response to the bombardment Pirate Large appears to have carried out his threat to unleash chemical weapons against the civilian populations, as confirmed by his transmissions:
“Ahharrgghhhh me hearties.............. It be aye.....................Pirate Large..................
i is talkin about me needles etc to inject this poison, as yee didn take any notice of what i be sayin, i asked for yee to withdraw from bombarding your own people, an yee didn take any notice.
i will have to say that the SMS prisoner Dirty Harry lived true to is name aye, an he plebbed up like a good en after i injected me stuff into im, an when i put the chemicals into im he didn look much better either.........ahharrgghhhh............
anyways Phillip Todd an SMS operative also ad a litel oover reaction to the chemicals, an blistered badly
i as filmed it for me records, i don just sell pirate porn, there be a market for this sort of stuff for you sicko an pervs out there aye............
i did warn thee that addin ships to a bombardment would result in this, so i opes you is happy that you as killed your own men.
Anyways im sure you will hear more from the glorious adventures of the pirate ship Large (and friends) ahharrggghhhh....”

After a day of bombardment, the DEN fleet left orbit. Reports indicate that their arrival came as a total surprise to the SMS, the IMP authorities, and the Anti-Piracy Task Force, with the IMP authorities being particularly displeased by the potentially heavy civilian casualties.
The IGN newsroom is receiving reports of heightened alarm amongst Capellan civilian populations as speculation mounts regarding the atrocities being committed by Large in Pompeii.

From The RIP News Network
Subspace Static issue 208.16 carried news of valiant RIP attempts to put an end to Pirate Large's heinous crimes.
The RIP troops were praised by the IGN for their daring and bravery. However, The IGN failed to mention the [censored] Room in any of its reports...
Crack teams of RIP dancing girls equipped with VIP passes have been dispatched to IGN offices across known space to bring and end to this tragedy. The IGN better mention the [censored] Room next week or I'll be forced to send copies of the vids from the last IGN [censored] visit to appropriate wives, girlfriends and mothers!

Vehrenberg Press Release
New PD takes office at Vehrenberg Space Command
Following the untimely demise of General Harold Sanchez the VSC are proud to announce Diego 'Diablo' Sanchez as the new PD of the organisation.
A minor noble within the Vehrenberg aristocracy, Diablo is no relation to the late General and his office states that rumours of his involvement with the General's failing health are nothing but paranoid delusions. A fact that Diablo's personal medical team are quick to verify as they were the experts attending the ailing general in his last days in office.

VSC Gratitude to the AFT
The VSC can also confirm that Cirdan has now returned to the AFT.
We would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank him for his aid and assistance over the last few months and also thank the AFT as a whole for their continued assistance with shipping materials in for structural development.
Maximillian Price takes a role within the VSC
Maximillian Price, formerly of the AFT has now taken a senior role within the VSC trade department. Any and all existing trade agreements are still valid and Diablo Sanchez is keen to continue to build on the trade
relationships developed by Mr. Price. (OOC I've retired Max Price to play Diablo Sanchez).

VSC Contact Details
If you wish to contact the VSC please PM 'DiabloSanchez' on the nexus.

Piracy
An Imperial sensor vessel has run foul of pirates in the Erasure system when five pirate light cruisers intercepted and destroyed it with the loss of all hands.
The pirates responsible were flying under the flag of the Blood Angels, and are understood to be a relatively new outfit.
The Imperial ship was involved in an operation to capture a pirate outpost in the system, presumably belonging to the Blood Angels. The base, when captured, was found to consist of a number of caves, a maintenance complex, and a recreation complex, and was thus obviously a supply depot.

Pirate Spotted
The pirate vessel Ghost Of Fortoon has been spotted in the Fortoon system, surprisingly enough.
The mere sighting of a pirate vessel has apparently sent panic through the civilian populations, with everybody on edge about where Pirate Large might strike next.

Time Travel
Strange rumours are circulating that some Periphery powers might be fiddling with the very fabric of space and time…

Weapons Of Mass Destruction
Anti-Matter devices have been deployed in Dryad, with high energy flashes being detected somewhere in the system. It is not known if this was a test or the actual deployment of an anti-matter weapon.
The imperial viceroy Admiral Lord Simms has requested that whoever it was immediately desist, as the IMP authorities do not appreciate this kind of hazard to shipping within their systems.
Nobody has yet claimed responsibility.

Pirate Large
The Pirate vessel Large has been spotted in the London system as it attempted to capture a QNG freighter. We understand Large came very close to success, before finally being beaten off by the desperate defenders.
This is the first time the pirate ship Large has been spotted in action for several months, sparking speculation that the terror of the spacelanes may be about to return.

Krell
The Krell clan rat have been in action this week, bombarding a GTT outpost in the Storm system. Heavy damage was done to GTT Canker by a Krell Broadsword class Heavy Cruiser that had been outfitted with rail guns.
However unfortunately for the Krell the outpost was able to shoot back, inflicting sufficient damage to the Broadswords ISR engines that it had trouble escaping the system as the GTT fleet responded.
Our newsroom has not heard, but it seems likely the Krell vessel was intercepted and destroyed as it attempted to leave the system.

News From Earth
IGN Reporters have this week been visiting the continent of North America, where previously the GCS maintained their headquarters.
Initial impressions are that this region has suffered considerably from the drain of resources imposed by the fled GCS authorities. With all the infrastructure paralysed, it seems the only aspects of society that seem to be functioning are the media and welfare services, ensuring the people are provided with both bread and circus.

*** Wimbles Crisis Solved ***

The Wimble Crisis of 217 has come to an end with the human Baron making way to the wimble Grandfather Paden Mastaak. Celebrations were held in Wimbledon upon the news with crack teams of Wimble security staff guarding all the pies.

It’s unclear how long the Wimbles will enjoy this new era of peace and self-determination.

Vocal Wimble Dinasha, one of Paden’s early backers, has chosen this precarious moment to bait Dewiek, Flagritz and humans who were initially disposed to be friendly to the new administration. Whilst the Wimbles' history with the former-slave-loving Flagritz could be understood, their animosity towards the Dewiek and humans was more mysterious. One insider alluded to a rise in the number of cases of foot-and-mouth across the herd as being a likely cause.

*** Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door ***

The stargates are closed! Reports from multiple sources indicate at least three of the stargates, all within Dewiek controlled systems, have been closed.

Two different sources have indicated that the TCA have been spotted recently in a number of systems and may be behind this turn of events. A scan sent to the SSS indicated eight TCA ships were recently spotted first in the Faery system and later near the Kasmer stargate.

Another source, suspiciously put the blame on the ARC, suggesting the ARC and DEN were working together because they “need to trap [the TCA] and try and finish them off after the DEN bodged their operation to protect the ARC while they incinerated the MEK homeworld, which ended up with several ARC ships being destroyed and the job only being half done."

However, with no public statement from the Dewiek themselves, its hard to know whether these rumours are reliable.

Lord Igor of the Dominion and Erasmus Andersen of the Garcia Family both offered public apologies at the delay in meeting their trade commitments because of the recent closures. The not-so-subtle subtext being that someone will pay with blood for this interference in their business. Or at least with a stealthy price rise.

The Flagritz Empire is no more! The Flagritz Republic is reborn! Quick on the heel of the collapse of the Empire, the Fessin caste declared a new era of foreign and economic policy with a rapid withdrawal behind the Black Gate.

The new ecologically-friendly Prime Minister Kayxaer, asked for patience as “economic” reforms were undertaken. It remains to be seen whether there will be any price to pay for the dramatic changes being made by the reclusive Flagritzi or whether it will all be sunshine and rainbows going forward.

Naplian Forces have attacked three human pirate outposts in the Morroglyph system. A spokesperson for Naplia HQ told the press that the plucky duct-tape loving free people would continue their war against slavers and pirates in their home periphery.

In good news for all the galaxy the Flagritzi have vowed to liberate all slaves across their Empire. Furthermore, the hectapods have given up eating other sentient species; taking up a strict diet of veganism and soy chai lattes. Sales of turtle neck sweaters and Forbidden Fruit laptops have skyrocketed.

*** Empire Strikes: Solo ***

A massive fleet of some 1600 warships, including large numbers of super-heavy capital 300 and 400 hullers, attacked the DEN in the Solo system, catching them with their metaphorical pants down. The DEN gate platform and some two hundred DEN freighters were subject to antimatter missiles amongst other high tech ordinance.

Jack the lad, Viceroy of the Empire, claimed a victory for freedom and the Imperial (right of) way leaving the sullen Dewiek unusually unresponsive.

With DOM platforms firing on CIA ships, will the IMP now demand the DOM add them to the Do Not Fire lists as well? And what exactly is the nature of the DOM and DEN alliance in light of the sustained attack from the Empire? And will the DEN’s alien friends stand idly by as the Empire fleet camps in the vital gate system of Solo? How will the DEN retaliate for this action or are they ready to roll over and have their bellies rubbed?

All this remains unknown. All that is certain is the “feel good” factor across the DTR has increased, with citizens reassured that for some time yet, they may continue in their slumber with the easy assurance that their number is not coming up anytime soon.

Dewiek forces had a hefty smackdown against the mysterious living ships known as the T’Cath (TCA). Seven adult TCA 400 hull capital ships, each firing eight of their notorious plasma cannons, were killed by a DEN and DOM fleet of some 700 ships.

Of the minimal losses suffered by the DEN / DOM, one-eyed Magnus and Nevets Motnhap of the FEL were amongst the dead.

*** Falconians Saved ***

The Imperials have cunningly saved the Falconian Republic from being consumed by the Dewiek Elder Nation and at no small cost to the DEN either. Whilst the new pro tem Consul crowed about the “victory”, all former FCN systems besides Acropolis have been taken over by the two warring Empires - Human and Flagritz.

Was it all worth it? For the IMP / GTT it clearly was, for the movement of a few hundred thousand troops is surely nothing to the cost they endured trying to and failing to knock the DEN out of Solo after the fact. The FCN now plucked off most of their navy and wider assets are a tiny nothing of their former self. The DEN may have resorted to some dirty namecalling but can the costs endured to save an enfeebled FCN have really been worth it? Time will tell.

Persistent Browser-Based Game (PBBG)

I’ve played on and off for approximately 10 years, over a 20 year spell. After some interesting debate on the in-game forum, I did wonder what, exactly, has kept drawing me back to the game, when for so many others I’ve generally lost interest after a few months.

Ultimately, I think it is a combination of automation (that allows the game to handle thousands of positions to interact on a daily basis) coupled with Special Actions (that allow the story arc to develop in a way that could not be catered for by a set of predefined list of available orders).
-Zigic
