The Detinus Games

Welcome back to the closing days of the Detinus Games, where we have the last two events for you to enjoy. First up, Hunting The Uberfleet.

The rules of this game are quite straightforward. Using their initiative, wits and no outside help, the contestants are to locate the fleet of 25 shuttles, representing the uber fleet, that are landed somewhere in the forests of Lycosidae.

Various clues have been placed around the forests but it is not just a question of running around as fast as they can. There are also picket ships that have the ability to eliminate the contestants from the game.

The siren has sounded and the competitors are off. Most appear to be keeping to the valley, just getting distance from the start, while a few are heading towards higher ground. We are using thermal imaging to follow them as the forest is dense and penetrating the canopy with optical sensors is proving difficult.

Kamar K'takh of the Mohache has halted in the middle of the open path. He seems to looking around in consternation. Now he is sprinting off the path and has dived behind a fallen tree. What is he up to?

He keeps lifting his head and ducking it back down. Has he seen something? Now he has taken a great interest in something closer, something on the trunk that seems to have amused him as he is giggling. He is rummaging in his backpack, probably for a hand scanner - no, wait, it appears to be a sandwich... Well, let's catch up on the other contestants shall we?

Magpie appears to be making good time, flying across small but very fast flowing rivers. Handy being avian, isn't it - but wait, he has crashed into something and appears to be hanging in midair. We will have to wait until we get a ground crew down there to see what has happened.

McKeeg of the IMP has snaked his way to the top of a small treeless hill and is sweeping the land with his binocs. He seems to be talking to himself - can we get a transcript? Yes, "platforms, my arse, that fat little space weeble was smacked of his face." With a final grunt he sets off, I think that he has spotted the elevated radiation emissions from one of the unnatural clearings just north of the start.

The OPS contestant is definitely on the right track, though how he knows is a mystery to me as he doesn't appear to be using any equipment - I will turn you over to the xeno-biology expert for an explanation.

“Well, as we all know, the hive are subterranean dwellers and for millions of years have happily lived largely in complete darkness. They find their way through the use of taste buds on their forelegs, pheromones in the air and we have recently discovered ultra-low frequency noise carried through the ground. No doubt he can hear the sound of the fleet's idling engines from hundreds of kilometres away.”

Sometime later... following a number of messages from our beloved sponsors…

Seems Magpie has discovered a large web spinner - didn't know there were any on this world. The ground team - now looking somewhat nervous - are filming him trussed up in the tree - did somebody say turkey? He is calling foul. This will have to be investigated.

The OPS steps out from behind an outcrop clearly pleased to be first to find the fleet, but disappointingly is blasted by a lone shuttle. Seems his feet have led him down the wrong path.

Others have been eliminated and only a few now remain, though the Mohache hasn't left his place behind the fallen tree and has fallen asleep, surrounded by various empty food containers. I don't even think he brought a scanner. Only IMP McKeeg and the DTR are in it now, though technically Magpie and Kamar are still participating.

From our vantage points we have tracked them both as they avoided the pickets and other hazards, picket up ion trails and the occasional emf burst from the fleet. The DTR however has not detected the picket in the hanging valley to his left and he should be coming into range any second - there, but wait, it is a miss and he is diving off a bank into a river. Some more shots, but he is evading - seems like he has an inertial damper all of his own.

There he goes over a waterfall - ouch, that's gonna hurt in the morning, but he has entered the clearing where the fleet has been stationed mere seconds before McKeeg steps over the crest of the hill to the south. While the DTR arrived first the way in which they arrived may give the judges some discretion.

This is definitely a matter for debate.

Who will be given third place? Kamar is still fast asleep though we have been informed that Magpie was trapped by a stealth net and that there are human foot imprints around the trap site.

We now have it on authority from the judges that there was a thumper at the picket ship that took out the OPS.

Seems somebody in a chameleon suit has been causing shenanigans across the entire gaming area. We’re going to have to pass this one over to the judges for adjudication. Oh, and wait! One of the judges has just shimmered and vanished. Apparently a member of the independent adjudication team was in possession of a chameleon suit!

Curse those independents!

What this means we do not know. But here come the ever alert DTR security forces to arrest, well… there seem to be a lot of them, and they seem to be arresting everybody. Including the competitors. And most of the foliage. No wait, they’re just blasting some clear zones for shuttles to disembark carrying, yes, you guessed it, more security forces! We’re not sure we’ve seen this many startroopers combat-dropping in years, anybody would think the DTR military don’t have anything to do these days.

Well, we’re going to have to wait and see what the DTR authorities have to say about this one. With any luck it won’t take a three year Senate Oversight Enquiry Committee to agree a course of action.

Oh, and here is the result. In triplicate. That was fast.

McKeeg of the IMP is declared joint-victor, along with the DTR competitor, the OPS, Magpie of the FCN and Kamar of the WMB, giving us five winners of this event! It seems the DTR have decreed that everybody left standing (Or sitting in a happy daze, or suspended in a giant spiderweb, as the case may be) deserves a victory.

They’re going to have to build a bigger podium!

Goshawk Resigns

The leader of the Falconian Republic has announced his shock decision to resign from public life this week:

"Senators, friends, fellow Falconians, I hereby step down from the office of Consul and retire from a public life. To have served the Republic has been an honour but now it is time for others to lead. Aedile Armand of House Magpie will act as Consul until elections are held. I trust the wisdom of House Owl will ensure a smooth transition."

Aedile Armand has issued the following statement:

“Armand of House Magpie will be taking over as acting Consul pending democratic elections for a new consul.
It is intended that business will continue as normal in the interim period. Anyone with deals they are concerned about may contact me by PM
The Falconian republic are very grateful for the astute leadership of Goshawk which has seen a number of new nests established and diplomatic relations strengthened.”

Detinus Games – Grand Finale!

Thanks for tuning in folks to this last exciting event before they finally close the curtains on these terrific and largely bloodless games.

A word of thanks to the Aquaphid civilians for all the caviar we could eat (though where they got that extra batch from without a delivery is somewhat disconcerting).

We end these games with the final few games in the round-robin-7-a-side. OPS are currently in the lead, thanks to an early tactic of spinning webs in the goalposts. This resulted in a rules amendment after much petitioning.

The Imperials are neck and neck with Vehrenberg. The Imperials would be ahead but their star player was revealed as a Meklan when a magnetized ball hit it in the face and caused it to recite the legendary book of zero-g sexual positions. This has sparked a serious debate amongst the contestants as to who in the Imperial team was responsible but more importantly does a Meklan actually have genitalia?

Anyway, back to the games.

We have three games still to go and while the OPS are currently in the lead, they have played all their games, which means a win by the IMP or the HVB will put them in front while a win by the CIA could put them in second if both the IMP and HVB lose their matches. Goal difference however could still push the FCN and FEL up into second if they both win and give their opposites a drubbing.
CIA and DTR
HVB v FCN
IMP v FEL

Over in the CIA v DTR is looking pretty good for the CIA. They do seem to be catching the DTR unaware and have hammered a few past the goalie as he seems a bit distracted.

The DTR have used their mob tactic to crowd the ball and despite giving away a few free kicks are largely holding their own even if it now looks unlikely that they will win.

The Falconians are having an easier time of it against the Vehrenbergs, mainly because the latter are two men down. Apparently they called a jihad on Screech, the Falconian goalie. He was severely plucked and close to getting a stuffing before the game was stopped and security called in.

The IMP and Felini appear evenly matched and as we turn to the game, we find that they are -all. The IMP are going in hard, preferring jackboots to trainers, though the nimbleness of the Felini has saved their bare feet from a good kicking. The Felini goalie however has had a few scrapes and the area around the goal is slick with ichors though we cannot determine whether this is coming from a split carapace or its feeders. It has refused treatment, though we suspect it would even if it had lost one of its appendages.

We hear that the Falconian game is in its final minutes and they are winning eight: three, largely thanks to some heavy hitter such as Mungo the Krell and some deft crosses by Cicindela.

There's the whistle, which puts the FCN in second place on goal difference for the moment.

A grand slam home by the CIA, though the DTR goalie appears to be mimicking an ape - this will need looking into. And that's the final whistle, six: five. That goal was decisive as it pushes the CIA into first place though currently on goal difference it looks like the IMP may still push them down to 3rd even if they do not win.

Ronnie James Dion for the IMP punts a long cross, which has been picked up by the forward in the dying seconds and he strikes. It hits the crossbar, Ronnie sweeps in and slides, he catches the ball and defender Puss Darkclaw. They have both gone down and have come to a halt half over the goal line just as the whistle blows.

The ref has judged it not to be a goal and people are not happy - the pitch is being invaded, there are some serious punches being thrown and fur is flying. Well that just about concludes our commentary on this year's events, and the winner of the 7-a-side is... hold on you can't come in here - hey put that down.. security...

RCF News

Forces calling themselves the Loyal Confederacy Forces have launched a number of attacks within the Inner Empire theatre.

“Outposts taken from the ground (all retaken by the IMP block) but RCF forces had pulled out :

Planet Perseus in the Tau Ceti system
Planet Phalanx (two outposts taken) in the Sparta system
Planet Tonnant (3489) in the Trafalgar system

Outposts hit from orbit

Ross System
Planet Consul (2769)

Tau Ceti system
Andromeda (1888)

Sparta system
Planet Ruin
Planet Ephors

It should be reported that one RCF ship was destroyed in the last raid

Three FET ships were attacked in the Darkfold systems, two destroyed and one lucky to get away.”

Reporters stationed with the RCF have told our news-room that the Trafalgar raid was particularly successful as the RCF managed to get away with a significant stockpile of Fibrillium.

More from the RCF

Loyal Confederacy Forces have staged a successful strike against a facility on the planet Pluto in the Sol system!

News agencies on Earth report some concern amongst the population regarding this close-to-home operation.

Storm Press Release

An open letter to the GTT, IMP AND IMP-(And to all members of the Steller Empire.

After consulting with our officers and the citizens on Planet Gale in Storm, we all agree that as much as we dislike any form of systems claims, this is one we approve of and intend to support.

We're in the process of turning the barren planet Gale into a liveable, breathable planet. The prior Administration of the IDC started it, and have a couple suburban areas already. Our Vines are ready to plant.

In the past we had considered selling out because we distrusted the stability of Storm. If anyone cares to ask around you'll find out that this is what we hoped for the most, though we had figured it would be the FCN.

Let this proclamation come as a warning to a few, in that; The IDC intends to support and defend the IMP Block in all matters in the Storm System. This proclamation does not apply anywhere else. We will not involve ourselves in the KRT/KRL ongoing conflicts. But we will defend and support and protect (to our ability) any IMP Block ships/starbases and outposts within Storm, without prejudice to other affiliations.

I (speaking for our affiliation) consider this a great move. It is a step forward and in the right direction. Good luck to the GTT, FET and IMP.

This one must have history........
Ship out an safe.”

Reports indicate the vessel was captured in the outer reaches of the Storm system – a system widely recognised as being a hive of scum and villainy.

Sources within the Imperial command hierarchy have suggested to reporters that this vessel may have been a hold-over of vessels belonging to the disgraced former Patrol Commissioner Gandolph, who was exposed as the dread Pirate Large. Which would seem to suggest that the IMP navy is riddled with ex-pirate officers.

The Imperial Viceroy himself has been quoted, “Gandolph was responsible for training half the IMP fleet, we would have to ground half the fleet if we wanted to clean out every last officer formerly under Gandolph's control.”

RIP Respond To Allegations

Greetings,

The RIP are is deep discussions on how we can take on board recent suggestions in order to prove we are both trustworthy and honourable.

These discussions are ongoing ... and will be continuing for a number of days yet.

Once completed we will publish the results here.

I would like to thank the FCN and DTR for their suggestions and assistance.

Thank you.

Xenomorph Infestation?

Falconian armed forces have this week dealt with an illegal IND outpost on the planet Segundo. Following a failure to ground assault the facility, it appears an orbital bombardment was called in to flatten the place.

The confusing thing however is that scattered comms transmissions from the ground force seem to indicate they ran into something unexpected, which necessitated their rapid withdrawal followed by the excessive application of orbital weaponry.

DTR Documents Leaked

Special Action/Yank/Lunk Defence/209.43
The DTR contact the KAS regarding the lack of a platform in orbit of Lunk
and therefore the danger of pirates as a result.
The Junta informs them that should pirates enslave some of the malformed,
inbred genetic dead ends that are the populace of that failed world, then
so be it.
Not quite the result that the governor was expecting as he was under the
impression that the platforms were for the protection of the non-rent
paying, resource exploiting and civilian wealth tapping affiliations that
have constructed undefended bases and outposts throughout the system.

Fury In Egghead

A chaotic scene erupted in the Egghead system as Imperial forces launched a series of random assaults against SMS targets. The battles continued over the course of two days as desperate Imperial commanders struggled to issue ceasefire orders to what can only be described as over-enthusiastic ship captains who just kept blazing away.

It is estimated at least 4 Imperial vessels were destroyed during the engagement, which somehow managed to avoid dragging in nearby AFT facilities.

Many sighs of relief were heard as all of the starbases involved were under heavy shielding, otherwise the damage could have been a lot worse.

Imperial commanders have admitted the incident was the result of an accident on their part, and we assume they will be paying full reparations to the SMS. Though the question still needs to be asked exactly why the IMP had a vessel with SMS on their active enemy lists in the first place.
