Continuing their recent trend of being in trouble with everybody and their granny, the RIP have fallen foul of the Confederate authorities following the detection of an illegal RIP outpost in the Fetlock system. The RIP were fined 30,000 stellars, which we understand they were happy to pay, along with issuing a full apology. Heaven help the RIP if they ever annoy the dread Mohache/Wimble alliance. Sargasso There have been unexpected visitors this week in the Sargasso system, secretive home of the RIP and long rumoured to be the hidden territory of all manner of ne’er do wells, a den of villainy, hive of malcontents, oh, and the SMS are apparently in there too. But it is not the SMS who were the unexpected visitors. Instead our newsroom has received reports that a CIA spook class Scout, the Newstones, was destroyed by the RIP platform Homeworld Defence Grid. Long understood to be an impenetrable fortress with very controlled access points, the RIP can surely not be too happy to see some uninvited visitors. Speculation is mounting that the CIA vessel deliberately let itself be seen and destroyed, to send a message to the RIP leadership. There is further speculation that the CIA might be hunting for the Empress Sarah. From the DTR Historical Department: The Empress Sarah. Pocket Battleship - Basically an enlarged version of the Patrol Cruiser, the Pocket Battleship design sacrifices a little speed for a considerably bigger main section allowing it to pack an impressive firepower. It is smaller than the Dreadnought class that appeared in the peripheries at the same time, but still considerably faster. The design appears to be a predecessor to today's specialized warship designs, being only slightly smaller and slightly slower than these. When it first appeared, it was second only to the Dreadnought class in firepower and combat potential among all human warship designs. Only one Pocket Battleship ever appeared in the peripheries, where it changed hands a number of times and eventually ended up in RIP hands. The RIP Empress Sarah (1001) is now probably one of the most well-known starships in the peripheries. Press Release Press Release From the offices of Blake Ravenstone Star Date 209.45.2 In a simple ceremony today at Port Scheherazade, the title Baron Kalahari was awarded to Blake Ravenstone, CEO of the Ravenstone Exploration & Development (RED) and Director of Exploration of the Galactic Trade & Transport (GTT). The new Baron made a short speech, in which he thanked Prince Lysander for this honour and reassured the people of the Wastelands about his commitment towards long term prosperity in the system. Wormhole Rumours Horrifying reports are reaching our news-room of a new wormhole having been detected somewhere in the Peripheries. Apparently it has been named ‘Al Bundy’s Hole’, and has already served passage to supra-freighters, warships, and in one instance a vessel carrying over 2000 colonists is understood to have made use of Al Bundy’s Hole. We are now going to go and scrub our brains out with bleach. Please nobody provide any video evidence. Pirate Destroyed Falconian patrol forces are reporting the destruction of: PIRATE SHIP GHOST OF ARANOSIS (16830) - {3 Heavy Hulls} - Attacking Ghost Class Scout {No Armour} Breaking News Wolfpack forces have struck at a GTT patrol of 12 warships. With 3 enemies damaged and 2 destroyed, Wolfpack forces are reporting no casualties themselves. Although we believe at time of press that the Wolfpack ships still have to disengage from the combat in one piece, as surely heavy GTT re-enforcements will be rushing to the scene. **Periphery Classifieds** University For Sale www.kjcgames.co.uk/phoenix/nexus/index.php?a=posts&tid=21640&lr=on#post_tag Nice little outpost for sale in the Teller System (147). K!! **Message From The Editor** Please note the Nexus has had a shiny new update, with lots of new features. And I understand that with this major update to the internet in place, the focus is now going to shift towards the creation of new game content. All very exciting. Hopefully we will have some interesting reports from goings-on at the pubmeet soon. Mica posted this short summary in news, which I shall repeat here for those of you who don’t regularly check the Nexus: *** I don’t want to give too much away as this will lead to a pre-pubmeet discussion/argument/flame-fest and those things are best resolved at the meet itself. The purpose of this open comment is really just so that those that are not attending can make sure that they have primed their attending advocates. We will make presentations and invite feedback. We really can’t stress the need for feedback enough – the pubmeet is your opportunity to meet us face to face and put your stamp on the game. We invariably take away from the meet a great deal of advice and we are able to thrash out issues that linger or get sidetracked on the forum, seemingly for months. This year there are three presentations: Halo Yes, the rumours are true, we are introducing a entire new Periphery into the game. The purpose of this is manifold; a place for factions to explore, trade and skirmish on a relatively level playing field under the seemingly benevolent though often inattentive overlords. It is also going to be the main route for new players wanting to get a feel for the game without encountering the shoot-on-sight/no-entry policy adopted by established affiliations. Politics The freedom to do anything is proving to be the chains that stymie everything. Everybody has got what nobody has wanted. The pubmeet will initiate a discussion to find a means of breaking this stranglehold on the game. We will be holding private hearings on this subject, i.e. let the GM know your plans so that he can incorporate them into the game development. We will not intentionally pull the rug out from under an affiliation’s feet. Characters We will be combining officers, agents, operatives and politicals into their own feature. We will be presenting them with skills. We will also expand the uniqueness of bases, resources (including mineral deposits) and finally returning affiliation abilities to the game. Characters also have far reaching implications for bases, exploration, missions and research. Now is the time then to present us with your list of unique areas you want us to include in the game. *** Also, please know that your friendly neighbourhood Editor is going on his holidays to Los Angeles this week, and I won’t be back until the 14th of December. (This is the first holiday I’ve been on in over 25 years.) At this point I have no idea how much internet/computer time I will have, so I honestly don’t know if I’ll be able to keep doing the Newsletter while I’m away. So there might be a guest editor next week. Or a shorter edition from yours truly. Please try not to blow up my positions while I’m away.
