Dewiek Packs (19)
Code DWP
Description I have seen things you people wouldn't believe... ARC ships on fire in the periphery of Orion... I saw virus bombs glitter in the dark night above Wolf Lair’s gate. Shall we stare into the past and bemoan our tragedy? For if we do… All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain...
But I say that now is not the time to lie down and die. Now is the time to rise and fight… the dark empathy of a shattered peoples to be rebuilt. A howl to cry into the night. To reach waiting ears and awaken dulled minds… to call forth the packs to unity.
For we are Dewiek… and we do not die.

Address of Skarn to the pack elders of Rogue

Whereas humanity evolved from primates, the Dewiek race evolved from a wolf-like canine species whose origins have long since been lost.

When fully grown they stand approximately 2.5m tall, these muscular bipeds have keen senses, large teeth and are covered in a thick layer of fur.

They tend to be carnivorous in nature, and enjoy raw and sometimes even live food. Dewiek are born with no claws on their front paws and this allows for a high agility factor. As the Dewiek grow older the claws grow (a sign of maturity) until they are so large that the only line of work open to them is mining or the military. This in turn has created a high military presence in the Dewiek packs. This also contributes to the advancement of technology as
the scientists tend to be younger Dewiek who aren't stifled by old preconceptions and are open to new ideas and theories.

The Dewiek civilian population tend to overlook their elders in peacetime and this leads to rather a high level of resentment from the older generations. The only path left for glory and self-achievement for them is in battle and this is why the Dewiek have a history of being constantly at war in at least one corner of the galaxy. Whether that will hold true following the ‘Firestorm of the Norns’ remains to be seen.
Dewiek also have empathic abilities, which are heightened as a Dewiek matures. This is strongest amongst familial groups and appears to be unbreakable and unlimited in range. This is often referred to as the 'Pack Mind' and Dewiek often sense the passing of pack members using this ability. This empathic ability exists amongst wider pack members but is much reduced although in military groupings it is strengthened and focussed allowing for complex auditory and visual communication between individuals and small groups is, making the Dewiek individuals and formations highly responsive in combat situations.

The Dewiek are considered by many to be a once technologically advanced race. The Dewiek civilisation has fallen a number of times and has always been rebuilt through rediscovering past technologies. The presence however of other advanced races at this time may well prove a hindrance as there is increasing competition whereas in the past the Dewiek had the benefit of closed off regions of space that they dominated.

Dewiek are pack creatures and govern their colonies accordingly. They have a fair tolerance to different climates and due to their thick fur they can survive in the coldest of environments. Dewiek packs have been seen to colonise areas from the icy polar caps to the arid deserts of some world.
