04-01-2008: SUBSPACE STATIC: 208 WEEK 1 DAY 5  [Recruit]

***** Inter Galactic Festivity *****

*** Battlefield ***

More skirmishing has broken out with Flagritz forces continuing to probe Consortium defences in and around the Battlefield system.

A single FLZ metal tracker class sensor ship has been destroyed by the SMS platform Bosworth in the outer quadrants of the system.

*** Independents Destroyed ***

Two IND freighters belonging to Ramjet Enterprises have fallen foul of the long-standing Falconian opposition to those who fly IND flags.

The following communication came from the head offices of Ramjet Enterprises:

"Members of the FCN.

My two captains had a touch of amnesia yesterday and with a fresh load
of Booker Steaks headed for Acropolis.

They managed to escape today after jettisoning the cargo, but I fear
that tomorrow may see my two small trade ships in tiny pieces.

If you have time to react could I ask you to remove IND from your
targeting list for one day?

If there is not time we will have to see what tomorrow brings, but I
feel it could be messy.

Rachel Ramjet
Soon to be Ex-IND Ramjet Transport."

We understand in a seasonal burst of goodwill, the FCN have offered to replace the two destroyed vessels.

*** Mercs ***

A curious story has reached our newsroom regarding some prisoners recently picked up from destroyed FLZ warships.

SMS sources indicate that before they would agree to be picked up from their floating hulks, a group of Naplian mercenaries demanded payment before effectively signing on with the SMS.

Exasperated SMS commanders eventually agreed to pay them their stellars, simply to expedite their rescue.

*** Storm ***

The Krell have launched another strike against FCN positions on the surface of Inversion.

IGN/SSS reporters who have recently been snuck onto Inversion and stationed with the Krell resistance were able to report on the incident first hand. We have the following report transmitted in short-hand:

"KRL warships arrive in orbit with 'support/defend' Krell on lists.

KRL freighters successfully re-supply and militarise a GP, which has remained docked with a FCN-seized ex-Krell mining outpost for 2 months. Remove Thorlium, modules and ground transport; Deliver shuttles, warbots, mercenaries & a Tank(1).

GP re-flagged as 'Black Rat' to support GP 'Bloody Fist' which has just docked with FCN Outpost 'Goths Folly', after walking all the way from the ruins of Vjun, but not yet attacked.

Black Rat takes off - and triggers battle with outpost it had just been docked with. Everybody piles in.

Everything goes boom, typically Krell, explosions and death. Mostly amongst the Krell ranks.

Inversion is possibly the most dingy station for any reporter this side of the Boomerang Firestorms. Please send expensive foreign restaurants."

It is understood the Krell assault took out 17 mines and 8000 mus of Thorlium, for heavy losses.

*** FET Press Release ***

Greetings gentlebeings of the Peripheries.

A few years ago, week 31 of the year 200 to be precise the FET Starbase Alderaan(4316)located on the planet Thorax in the Schrike system opened fire on and destroyed the IND ship Rubber Duck(752)that was enroute to trade with the GTT base also located on Thorax. As well as the loss of life that resulted in the destruction a substantial amount of stellars was also lost.
The ship belonged to a fleet controlled by the IND trading company known as Alexander Enterprises.
Although at the time FET had a policy of shooting all IND ships that entered orbit of our bases due to some IND working with our enemies we had not recently reminded the citizens of the peripheries of said policy.
That was remiss of us. The result of all this has caused bad feeling between FET and Alexander Enterprises who I believe now oversee and advise the KST in the Kastor system.

FET regret the destruction of the IND ship Rubber Duck and we hope that in this new era of peace that is hopefully about to be agreed between the warring human affiliations we can learn from our past mistakes and start to live along side each other in peaceful cooperation.

Thank you for your time.

I wish you all a happy and prosperous year 208.

Yours.

Zuvoro Norozov.
FET CEO.

*** FET Press Release ***

Greetings.

Almost a year ago FET supplied the FLZ with certain goods with a value of 153,600 stellars.

FET authorised the FLZ to pick up these items from FET Tortuga on the understanding that the FLZ would deliver the payment for these goods to another FET base nearer FLZ territory. This never happened.

I realise that the FLZ leadership has changed several times this year, but each successive leader has promised payment and FET are still waiting and have now lost patience.

If the current leadership would like to contact me privately(all the peripheries know you are active again with recent military actions)hopefully we can sort this debt out.

If no communication is forth coming or the FLZ refuse to honour the debt I will have no alternative but to request permission from the Imperial services to either close down FLZ access to Imperial space or allow FET to conduct limited actions against the FLZ in an attempt to take possession of FLZ assets to cover the outstanding debt.

Thank you.
Zuvoro Norozov.
FET CEO.

Stardate:207.52.

*** Further FLZ Debts ***

Our reporters have learnt that as well as having a significant debt owed to the FET, the FLZ are also in debt to the GTT and the QNG.

11-01-2008: SUBSPACE STATIC: 208 WEEK 2 DAY 5  [Recruit]

***** Inter Galactic News *****

*** Locals Boycott Imperial Starbase ***

Reports of disquiet in the Inner Empire are starting to surface, with news that the Imperial Services are running into a few problems with planetary populations who supported the departed GCS.

The Imperial News Wire has been carrying the following story:

"Subsequent to the removal of a GCS Starbase in the Tau Ceti system by GTT and IMP forces the local government, apparently ardent GCS supporters, have ordered a boycott of the Imperial Starbase on the planet. Negotiations are in progress to convince them of the inevitability of the regime change in the old Inner Empire systems."

*** Flagritz Assault ***

The Flagritz Empire has launched a successful strike against Falconian interests in their home system of Acropolis.

Approximately 100 heavy Flagritz warships attacked 30 Falconian Destroyers, destroying almost all of them for the loss of one small FLZ escort.

The Falconian ships are understood to have been normal hulled, making them easy prey for the larger heavier Flagritz baseships.

*** Skirmish In Acropolis ***

In a separate action in Acropolis, a large Falconian patrol intercepted a small group of Flagritz vessels consisting of a gun boat, an ambush class destroyer, and a Dominator class capital ship.

It is understood that the Flagritz Dominator was acting as the command and control vessel for the larger Baseship fleet that struck the 30 Falconian Destroyers.

All three Flagritz vessels were destroyed.

*** Battlefield ***

The SMS have released figures on the numbers of Flagritz prisoners that have been taken in recent actions in the Battlefield system. The tally reads as follows:

| PRISONERS
|
| 80 Flagritz Prisoner (599)
| 45 Hive Prisoner (567)
| 29 Human Prisoner (503)
| 68 Naplian Prisoner (551)
| 1 Uth'ma (#1) {FLZ Prisoner}
| 1 Swarm Master (#3) {FGZ Prisoner}

*** Accidental Weapons Discharge ***

The FET is reporting the accidental attack of a KST vessel in orbit of Utopia in the Capellan system. The KST freighter dumped cargo and fled, at which point the FET Starbase New Kyoto picked up the debris field.

The FET Director has issued an apology for the attack, and offered to return the cargo. The captain of the FET vessel who opened fire is currently facing a board of enquiry.

*** Pirates ***

The Wolfpack mercenary pirates have been in action again, this time destroying the Wimble vessel Nan's Butter Pudding.

According to Wimble sources a zip squeal from the black box recorder of the Wimble vessel has been received with the following battle summary:

---------------------------------------------------

Whilst the WMB captain is likely to receive a severe talking to should he ever actually return to us, it has reduced our feelings of anger to see the facts of damage caused in the "battle". Camera footage shows pirate ships scattering as the WMB vessel came out of jump between them and catching each other in the crossfire.

There has been some confusion regarding this battle. Confusion that was thankfully cleared up by the Wolfpack themselves, when they released the following statement to the press:

***

Having looked for targets in Audrey we activate the jump engines and
just as we are leaving an IMP squad turns up to intercept us.

Somewhat surprised we arrive in Dorn to find ourselves surrounded by
over 35 COH and FCN ships. Outnumbered by 5:1 we decide to make a
tactical withdrawal. One ship is caught dozing and takes the full
firepower of the enemy fleet.

Having lost only one ship despite being heavily outnumbered we
arrive in another quad of Dorn to take stock of the day. Then to
our surprise another pirate ship passes, followed shortly by a 200
hull Wimble freighter which decides to take on all six 100 HH
warships and a 75 HH broadsword.

My fleet immediately goes into action shooting each other, while the
lone passing pirate broadsword pops the wimble freighter with a
minimum of fuss and no assistance.

Losing one ship out of seven after escaping from an IMP fleet, a
combined COH/FCN fleet and then a crazy Wimble actually looks quite
good !!

At least we still have our cloaks, jump engines and enough time to
use them both. :)

Wolfgang,
Wolfpack Squadron.

*** Blue Prints ***

Hi,
Due to a recent clear-out, I find I have two copies of the
following blueprints: Bunks (10098), and Caravel (25006) and would
be
interested in swapping for similar.

For bunks I'd be interested in something like combat engines, battle
bridge, etc. What have you got? Space or ground military preferred.

For the caravel, I'd be interested in swapping for another ship
blueprint; something smaller in a normal or heavy hull, but not
requiring advanced techs e.g yacht, courier or fast freighter, but
nothing that needs stealth plates, for instance. A blueprint
incorporating advanced internal items, such as AI navs, which
wouldn't prevent the ship being build lacking them, would be ok.

Also, I'm interested in trading for industrial modules, just a few
hundred, in Yank, but not for cash (because I haven't got any).
Anyone interested in raw materials, troops... employees maybe?
Small lots perfectly acceptable.

KrellPD aka TonyH

*** Patch Your Ship Good ***

I would like to invite everyone to take a look at the Hull Patch Price
for RIP Salachia (99627) on Mobile Bay, in Yank.
For only 50 stellars per patch, you can get your ship's maint/repair
work completed. There is just one miniscule catch-you have to contact
the Starbase governor (that would be me) PRIOR to landing (can't
emphasise this enough). The starbase's Security Chief gets really,
really upset with me if I don't provide him with an updated Authorized
Landings list first. Act now because supplies are limited and this
offer is good for only a limited time!
Who knows, with all of the savings, you may be inclined to purchase a
few of the over-priced..I mean high-quality...goods I have for sale.
Or conversely, you can go next door to the Jiggly Room and have a great
time!
We at the RIP got you covered on all angles.

*** Desperately Seeking ***

Could the owner of FLZ Dae Pri'Zeta (84160) please contact me at their
earliest convenience.

Even more specifically can the owner of position number (38114)
currently in orbit of Steel in St. Dismas please contact me.

I've been away from the game for several months (unavoidable real life
stuff getting in the way) and on returning have noted something that
seems to have happened by mistake that needs rectifying as soon as
possible.

Many thanks in advance.

Carl
AFT Maximillian Price

*** Stuff Wanted ***

Greetings and Salutations,

The RIP are proud to announce their intention to buy Technology of all sorts and substances.

We are interested in hearing from anyone who is considering selling Principles, Technologies, Blueprints and Scientists.

We are not looking for anything in particular - but are interested to know what you have and the price you are willing to sell it for.

(It seems the Jiggly profit over the festive period was more than I anticipated ... therefore I have cash to burn!)

In previous 'technology drives' I have purchased Principles as well as some of the cheaper items... so make your suggestions known.

You can do this publicly on these forums if you wish... or privately over a beer or seven at the Jiggly Room (I'll buy the beer for these discussions!).

Or just send me a subspace message!

RIP GT Spugman
Jiggly Room

*** Ships Wanted ***

Greetings sentients,

Does anyone have any ore carriers they are looking to sell?

Please let me know what the specification of the ship/s is/are and
your asking price.

AFT Maximillian Price

*** Fight hard? Have some jiggly ***

'Any battle veteran personally visiting the Jiggly Room between now and 208.3.5 will be given a free Jiggly Room Iced Tea and be entered into our daily Free Jiggly Dance draw'.

Proof of military training/deployment will be required - please show your battle wounds, severed limbs, shellshocked expression (ok ... military ID card will be accepted at a push) at the door.

Those of you who would like to regale the rest of us with your battle tales and old war stories may like to note that Thursdays will be 'open mic' night - most believable adventure yarn wins Jiggly Vouchers! *

Don't let anyone say that I don't support the military!

***** Inter Galactic News *****

***News Flash - Earth under siege ***

For the first time in more than four hundred years, Earth herself has come under direct barrage from orbit. This unprecedented action has panicked billions of people and the Solar system is in uproar! Even during the Detinus Revolt and the Confederate Rebellion, nobody dared so much.

Who will save humanity for surely humans can't be trusted! A new Dark Age dawns for the human race.

*** Peace Progress ***

From the Imperial News Agencies:

"The hopefully final draft of the peace agreement with the DTR, CNF and their allies has received the stamp of approval from the Viceregal Administration, after consultation with our allies. In spite of this progress a CIA ship was destroyed on entering the Capella orbit during the week. The affiliation initiating the action had not removed the CIA from their enemy list due to the CIA's tardiness in removing their declaration of war against the IMP and GTT. All other affiliations involved in the peace process, excluding one of the Noble Houses, have already stood down from an active state of war with their former enemies."

*** Skirmish ***

A Falconian freighter has fallen pray to a single Flagritz Ambush class Cruiser in the Acropolis system today.

The Ambush Class Cruiser, the ZZ-Zero, was lying in wait in a regular space lane when it engaged and destroyed the FCN TC Condor. This class of FLZ vessel is indicative of a group of ex-DNA vessels, who used to regularly prowl Falconian space looking for lone unescorted freighters.

*** Obituary ***

From the Krell Information Division:

The ex-leader of the Krell 'Bloody Fist' clan had analogues within human history; Unfortunately not the one on which he liked to style himself, 'Genghis Khan'' but closer to that of Ho Chi Minh, first leader of the former 'Democratic Republic of Vietnam' (Later to become the Vietnam free-trade region of the 'Greater China co-prosperity sphere'). Records of his early years are lost, but he emerged in mid-life in service of the Galactic Tariffs and Trade, in that organizations administrative district of the Krell home planet, Inversion. Many who knew him maintain that his sympathies always remained with the GTT, but these misgivings were put aside when he first rose to prominence as leader of the Bloody fist, during it's brief ascendancy and domination over the Krell race, under Falconian domination. After a short co-habitation with the colonial regime, during which he co-operated with the annihilation, by stealth, of the 'Black Rat' clan presence on Inversion, he led the first stages of the insurrection against the Falconian colonizers, during which the Krell city Of 'Fort Inversion' was destroyed by Imperial bombardment. He is believed to have served in a leadership role in the subsequent ground campaign on Inversion, despite never achieving formal military rank, before again coming to prominence as governor of Vjun, under the RIP-supported administration of the second Krell-Falconian accord, of 206/207.

With the collapse of the accord, in late 207, he resumed military command of the 'Bloody Fist', where he fell in the futile 'storming of Vjun' during the premature and catastrophic 'Boxing day rising' of end 207. Sadly missed by his troops, for several years, but unfortunately not by Falconian perimeter robotic defence bunker fire. Hail Warlord Thrott Ironfist!

*** Skirmish ***

A single Flagritz Broadsword, believed to have been left behind in Acropolis after the recent FLZ attack there, has been intercepted and destroyed by an SMS patrol of Shark and Broadsword class heavy cruisers.

*** Inadvertant Dockage ***

A RIP Starcaptain has apparently accidentally docked with the DTR facility Freedom. The following transmission has been received by news agencies throughout the peripheries:

---- Blackbox recording ---

Captain "Oi! Pilot! We need maintenance - set course for Freedom City - it's such a wonderful place to visit this time of year... Ahhh Freedom City - the glorious sunrises and the way the moon plays over the seas. I can't wait to get there and take some well deserved rest while the ship is repaired..."

Pilot "squeak, crackle, squeak, pop ... boss? I think we need maintenace... these squeak intercomms squeak crackle hiss pop""

Captain "sqeak, crackle, pop, squeak, hiss ... damn these intercomms... we desperatly need maintenance... set squeak, crackle for squeak Freedom squeak crackle"

Pilot "Squeak crackle... ok Freedom it is then squeak crackle pop squeak... hopefully they can repair this squeak crackle pop intercomm"

--- Blackbox ends ---

Nervous RIP authorities have contacted the DTR to offer apologies and request their vessel be allowed to go free, but with the DTR now at peace with everybody, it remains possible that hawkish elements within the DTR senate may seize upon this opportunity to declare war against the RIP.

Or possibly not.

Only time will tell.

*** Pirate Destroyed ***

The PIR Vessel Jack Of Hearts ran into trouble this week as it attempted to escape orbit of Spritzer in Yank and promptly ran into an incoming squadron of FCN warships, an AFT Anti-Piracy patrol, and a squadron of QNG warships.

***** Inter Galactic News *****

*** Conflict In Sol ***

A series of battles and skirmishes have broken out throughout the Sol system this week with elements of the GCS and EEI engaging Imperial-Bloc and Detinus assets. The Imperial News Wire has been carrying the following story:

"As a result of a ship entering Earth orbit with incorrect battle computer settings the allied fleet in Earth orbit opened fire on GCS Galactic Central, the GCS headquarters on Earth. The Starbase was well shielded and suffered minimal damage but as it is situated in an urban sector there was considerable collateral damage and civilian casualties. Sporadic firing continued on a small scale as other ships in the fleet suffered problems with their now activated battle computers. The Captain of the ship responsible for the initial error is now awaiting Court Martial at an Imperial base on Mars

The GCS are making intense propaganda capital out of the incident and it is believed that the local populations are now boycotting other bases in the Sol system."

This report seems to clear up why the Earth based authorities are transmitting the following system message:

News Flash!

Earth under siege - for the first time in more than four hundred years, Earth herself has come under direct barrage from orbit. This unprecedented action has panicked billions of people and the Solar system is in uproar! Who will save humanity for surely humans can't be trusted!

A Detinus Republic exploration vessel, the Aurora, arrived in Earth orbit to investigate the reports that the civilian population centres were being bombarded. However upon arrival the EEI Platform Tearaway opened fire upon the unarmed Detinus Survey Cruiser, destroying her with the loss of all hands.

Detinus news sources are reporting that retired senator Marcus Rhodes, who had become the DTRs special ambassador to the Inner Empire, was onboard the Aurora and has been killed.

The dramatic loss of Ambassador Rhodes prompted the Detinus Republic to send a second vessel to make contact with the EEI to enquire why they were fired upon. At time of press we understand the EEI have destroyed this second DTR vessel too.

For those of our readers who might not be aware, the EEI are the Inner Empire parent corporation of the FET. Though they are no longer affiliated with the FET.

*** Pirate Attack ***

A major pirate operation has taken place this week, as several pirate fleets apparently joined together to take on a COH outpost in Dorn.

The pirate mercenary company Wolfpack is understood to have occupied the defending COH ships, while a new pirate group, the Blood Angels, hit the outpost doing approximately 20k damage.

*** Last Spasm Of The Krell ***

Things are looking bleak for the Krell, as one of their operations has ended in failure. The Krell leadership have been kind enough to provide us with the following summary of the weeks actions:

"Basically, it was a raid against the Falconian flotilla spotted in orbit, which comprised:

1 150-heavy-hull warship [FCN Eagle Droppings (88792) a Dominator Class Capital Ship]
1 100 light hull sensor ship [FCN Swanage (95030) a Tempest Class Sensor Ship]
1 20 hh explorer [TS Sparrow 8 (50225) - Sparrow Class Explorer {No Armour}
and 1 20 NH sensor ship [TS COURIER 1 (89833) - Courier Class Sensor Ship {No Armour}

The 'Gutter Runner', a 50 hh torpedo warship (only part-repaired from the previous encounter) was sent in to target the 100 LH sensor ship.

The 'Discord' a fully-repaired 75hh broadsword-class missile carrier, was sent in, with the designated role to shield the Gutter runner from the Falconian warship, long enough for the larger sensor ship to be destroyed.

The 'Malevolence', a 75hh railgun-equipped broadsword still 50% damaged from boxing day, was sent in to have a shot at 'Goths Folly' (Now renamed 'No Folly') but due to one of the quirks of combat, failed to take any of the AP rounds designated and went in with no offensive ammunition whatsoever.

Also sent was the 'Animosity', a 50 nh vessel, now outfitted for boarding operations.

The pirate vessel 'Queens Guardians Revenge' was also spotted passing through the quadrant but has nothing to do with the Krell liberation forces.

The Animosity failed to spot its target, the 'TS Courier 1', and moved on from the combat area.

The 'Gutter Runner' locked onto its target, the Swanage, and launched four salvos of torpedos against it - all of which were shot down by point defence. The Gutter runner successfully fled the battle scene on the second day, although targeted by three 150-hh vessels from the Falconian response: FCN SHIP GADGETSTAN (54768) - {150 Normal Hulls}, FCN SHIP MARSHALLS REFUGE (64863) - {150 Normal Hulls}, FCN SHIP STORMWIND (74239) - {150 Normal Hulls}.

The 'Malevolence' hung around the battle area, taking light (further) damage after being targeted by light photon gunfire from a Falconian Yacht-class vessel, the 'Red bird'. It managed to flee combat successfully on the second day.

The 'Discord' engaged the 'Eagle Droppings' and launched four salvoes of 50 (initially) kinetic missiles against it - all of which were shot down by point defence. Return fire was received from the APEX rail cannons and space fighters, and also from the FCN outpost, which was newly-armed with 122 missile launchers. It was destroyed on the second day, while attempting to flee.

The Falconians then conducted a salvage operation against the debris, and intercepted and totally destroyed a 20LH Krell cargo vessel, the 'Hakudo Maru' in the space square.

Given the one-sided nature of the struggle, the Krell are looking for new leadership to take over within weeks (official), as the current leadership is retiring."

We understand that Falconian security forces are clamping down on Inversion, and that the planet is coming more strongly under Falconian Empire rule now.

*** Hive Terror ***

The cuddly loveable Hive have been making efforts this week to understand human customs, making landfall for rest and recreation at the RIP Starbase Salachia.

We understand there were only minimal casualties as friendly locals tried to explain to the Hive that eating strippers counted as 'inappropriate touching'.

*** FLZ Escape ***

The 200 hull Flagritz warship that was being boarded by SMS marines as reported last week has reportedly managed to escape the clutches of the would-be boarders, and make good its escape.

*** Ship destroyed ***

The Krell freighter Hakudo Maru, a coaster class life form transport, has been intercepted and destroyed by Falconian forces in the Storm system.

It is understood the freighter was not carrying any cargo when it was destroyed.

*** Markets ***

Fellow members of the peripheries,

In an effort to streamline Falconian trade in Acropolis and make
transactions easier for our customer, we have decided to move all PUBLIC
markets to Falencia (3351). Over the coming weeks, all items currently
being sold and bought on the public markets will be moved to our central
trade depot. Private Markets will not be affected and will remain at
their designated starbases.

When dispatching ships to Acropolyse, please ensure you consider items
for trade at Falencia (3351) as public items on other markets could have
moved by the time your ships arrive. For ships currently en-route,
please could you drop me a note at "tkar (at) falconians (dot) com" and
we will issue instructions for our warehouse staff to relocate the
required stock to your port of call.

We hope to expand our markets and hope that you all find having a
central market with increased goods availability an assistance in your
trade with the falconians.

*** Alien Brain Parasites ***

Everybody's favourite brainsuckers have been back in action this week, nibbling at the edges of the RIP data net. Normal service is expected to be resumed soon.

If by 'normal service' we mean blind devotion to our supreme alien brain parasite overthings.

Do not question! Obey!

*** More Peace ***

Proving that peace is almost as infectious as a trip to the RIP Jiggly Room, Alexander Enterprises have issued the following statement:

In reply to the FET statement of regret that was issued at the end of year 207

Alexander Enterprises accept the FET apology. The long and costly war that the unfortunate destruction of an innocent IND trader started between Alexander Enterprises and the FET, IMP and GTT has thus come to an end. The issue is settled now.
The life fire incident against a KST freighter in Capellan in week 2/208 has been settled amicably between the KST and the FET, and no hard feelings remain.
On behalf of the Kastorian people (for whom formerly IND Alexander Enterprises have come to work) the cessation of hostilities is accepted, too. You fought well. All FET, IMP and GTT positions have been unposted, with the exception of three captured KST ships. We explicitly reserve a right to re-capture these, and would like to point out that it was the IMP & Co who brought the war to Kastor.
IMP/FET/GTT have been removed from all enemy lists in Kastor and you are welcome to trade if the CNF grant you access to the system of Kastor.
-Alexander Enterprises out.

In no way is this statement to be interpreted as an indication that Alexander Enterprises have been overrun by alien brain parasites.

Love your parasite!

*** DTR In SOL ***

Questions have been raised about the presence of the Detinus Republic within the Sol system, with accusations ranging from them planning on enslaving the population of Earth, all the way through to an evil plan to slaughter all humans in the Sol system to be sold on as tasty snacks to the Hive.

The truth is of course far more sinister, with several Detinus news agencies reporting that they intend to bring the joys of the Detinus democratic system to the peoples of Earth. Who can no doubt look forward to the full and terrifying inefficiency of any Democratic system. Assuming the DTR Senate can ever agree on how best to bring in free elections.

Expect a decision from them in five years when the special investigative committee finally publish their findings.

Or a slightly faster response if they are all consumed by brain parasites.

*** Vessel Destroyed ***

The DTR Freighter Morro has been destroyed whilst attempting to buy some Booker steaks from the Imperial Starbase Riva.

The incident is understood to be down to a hold-over active enemy list from the good old days of bloodthirsty battle, and a brief survey of DTR Starbase governors has suggested that a fair number of them might still fire on visiting Imperial vessels too.

Both Detinus and Imperial-Bloc freighter captains are advised to check travel plans with the relevant authorities before venturing into each others territory for the time being.

This sort of thing just wouldn't happen if we all embraced the Alien Brain Parasites.

Conformity is choice!

*** Close Call ***

The pirate ship Jagdhund attempted to board the FET freighter Roddickton in the Wastelands system this week. The boarding was successfully beaten off by the Roddicktons small marine compliment. The pirates consisted of an unusual group of Hive Soldiers backed up by a platoon of human marines.

No alien brain parasites were harmed during this action.

*** Yum ***

Do not underestimate the nutritional value of humans. Rich in nutrients,
minerals, vitamins, and four of the five major food groups. They are an
excellent accompaniment with some French cheeses and Russian wines. There
is a popular recipe involving fava beans and a nice Chianti, but we find it
over-rated and a bit strong to the palate. People are best prepared in the
traditional Polynesian style with a nice honey glaze, cloves and a slice or
two of pineapple. The infamous Soylent Green is a dish best left to the
unwashed masses who prefer their food overly processed with too many toxic
additives. The best preparation method is wash, rinse, boil (with a touch
of salt), then pan-fry or cook on a spit over an open flame. Serve with
brown mustard (NEVER use ketchup!) and a nice sweet onion relish.

See our recipes at www.weeatpeople.com

15-02-2008: SUBSPACE STATIC: 208 WEEK 7 DAY 5  [Recruit]

*****KJC Update*****
Game Changes
Damage cap as it applies to bases and platforms has been added to the game.
www.kjcgames.co.uk/phoenix/forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=364&view=findpost&p=2820

A number of bugs have also been fixed including paying wages for officer prisoners, 'copy order' order and requirement for at least one sensor to detect anything.
Most of this upgrade however was concerned with making the game compatible with the new online system.

18-02-2008: SUBSPACE STATIC: 208 WEEK 8 DAY 1  [Recruit]

**** Inter Galactic News *****

*** Piracy ***

It has been a busy week for pirate scouting parties, with the SMS reporting that not one but five of their installations have been probed by pirate scouts.

SMS Fortress and Olpah in Solo, Avalon in the Cluster, Rockall in Inferno and Pompeii in Pegasus have all seen skirmishes erupting along their perimeters, with multiple pirate ground parties being destroyed by SMS defence forces.

It is understood by our reporters that incidents of this nature, where a small scout party approaches a Starbase only to be destroyed by the Starbases entire defensive compliment is leading to a change in the standing orders for military commanders throughout the Peripheries, with instructions being issued on how to destroy scouts without revealing the full weight of the defences. Or in other words, trigger happy armoured division commanders have been told not to shoot every single gun they have when two guys pop their heads over the top of a nearby hill.

It remains to be seen how well this will go down with military commanders.

Speculation is rife as to the identity of the pirates, with suggestions ranging from Pirate Large scouting out a new target, to the Flagritz Empire conducting black ops.

*** RIP Implicated In Something ***

The name of the hidden RIP outpost of Goats Head Prime has been leaked to the media, fuelling rumours that the RIP are up to something sinister in Acropolis, Francoise or Starling.

It is not the responsibility of the Inter-Galactic News to speculate, but we've heard stories that the RIP are about to unleash a new super-plague from hidden outposts throughout known space.

Allegedly.

*** Storm ***

The Krell outpost Citadel located on the asteroid Warlord's Seat has come under Falconian ground attack.

According to Krell sources Krell Citadel was the primary route of evacuation from Vjun, and that the outpost has since been largely mothballed, consisting of a dome, command centre and shuttle ports, with 14 employees and 7 Krell Mercenaries mounting a typically Krellian defence.

*** DTR Freighter ***

The peace between the IMP and DTR is still being ironed out, with reports reaching our news-room of a further incident in orbit of Booker.

The DTR merchant Navy have released the following statement detailing the inident:

FM: DTR Merchant Navy
TO: IMP
SB: Live-fire incidents

Gentlebeings,

a DTR freighter was destroyed upon entering orbit of Booker last week. This came
as somewhat of a surprise as another DTR freighter had narrowly evaded
destruction (and suffered heavy damage) in the week before from exactly the
same IMP installations.

With the death toll among civilian DTR crews mounting we would like to request a
formal announcement from the IMP if and when they will stop shooting at DTR
positions at Booker.
A rescue mission for the survivors of last week's attack has been held up
awaiting your reply.

For the greater glory of the Republic

Abelard Lindsay
for the DTR Merchant Navy

The Imperial Viceroy has confirmed that the matter is being investigated, and that notice will be given when enemy lists are confirmed cleared.

*** Pirates ***

A number of suspicious pirate scouting parties have been spotted poking around the perimeter of COH Ves Ghorman. It is suspected these are part of the same operation that has been scouting SMS bases.

*** Skirmish ***

Two Flagritz vessels have been destroyed in the Crusade system by a small Felini squadron. It is understood an attempt to board the FLZ vessels had failed, so the decision was taken to destroy them instead. A FLZ ground party at the same location was also destroyed. It is not known what the ground party was up to.

*** GTT Attacked ***

The GTT vessel Thorough has been destroyed by the Falconian Empire this week, prompting an immediate apology by the FCN governor involved, who offered to pay full reparations.

Admiral Lord Simm, the Imperial Viceroy responded coldly to the incident, being quoted in the press as saying, "You do realise that shooting at a Chartered Affiliation position in IMP space is grounds for expelling an affiliation from our systems? If I were you I would consider making it worthwhile for the GTT not to insist on this."

It is not known what the official GTT response to this incident is.

*** Marcus Rhodes ***

A commemorative wreath has been laid in the Detinus House Of Lords marking the recent death of Ambassador Marcus Rhodes during the destruction of his vessel in orbit of Earth.

Fragmentary recordings from the black box transmitter have gifted to us all the wisdom of Ambassador Rhodes' last words.

Regrettably these last words were: 'You Bastards!' Which in terms of historical significance… probably not so much.

*** Press Release ***

The Flagritz Empire has released the following press release:

"Glory to Officer Urn,

Battlefield
Officer Urn Commander of HH Baseship ZZ-Unry'u (63108) exhibited great
courage in Flagritz tradition & returned from Battlefield in a smoking
Baseship.

Urn exhibited courage, critically damaged and short of crew, jump
engine, ISR engines, thrust engines fended boarding attacks whilst
refitting under the noses of the Consortium.

Crusade
Glory to Operations Team 13 who died against overwhelming odds after
completing their Crusade objectives against the Felini. We will honour
you in similar fashion.

FLZ GP-Crusader13 (75539) - Ground party
FLZ New Ship (73614) - Ship
FLZ Cliriq Bra'dsor (90687) - Ship

Baw'Xok
Imperator
Flagritz Empire
Glory to the Empire"

This release is understood to relate to the recent reports carried by this fine publication regarding the crippled FLZ Baseship that the SMS were attempting to board.

*** Krell Vessel destroyed ***

A Krell scout ship has been intercepted and destroyed by Falconian patrol forces in the Storm system.

*** Retirement ***

The AFT scourge of Piracy, Archangel, has this week announced his retirement. We hope he finds his retirement boring, and returns to active duty sooner rather than later.

*** Bankrupt? ***

Rumours are spreading that Garcia Industries might have run out of liquid cash reserves, with the Iron Brethren reporting that their recent attempt to trade with GCE Oasis had failed due to a shortage of funds.

The GCE were quick to respond, re-assuring traders that this was a temporary glitch, and that it did not reflect upon the organisation at all.

*** Wolfpack ***

The mercenary company Wolfpack have struck back at the GCE for their involvement in the COH outpost hit a few weeks ago, ambushing and destroying the GCE Delirium, a 70 hull Gonsalo class Heavy Cruiser.

Eight Wolfpack warships were spotted in the action, along with four pirate vessels reporting to belong to the Blood Angels organisation. It is not known if they are separate to the Wolfpack, or part of the same mercenary company.

The Delirium was lost with all hands, and barely even had time to get off a distress call.

Nik has just posted a new topic entitled "Control factors and race type" in forum "Questions/Rules Discussion".

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I know that on ships the race of the troop has an effect on how many crew factors are provided.

Is this also the case for the control factors a troop type gives to a Starbase (or on a boarding action for that matter)?

I.e. being human, if my Starbase is on normal spread then human soldiers give 4 control factors each. Would Feleni, Kastorian etc soldiers also give 4 control factors each? If not, what do they give (half??)

And yes, if you calculate what the values should be from a SB report, the race of troop makes no difference - but the code could be different when a battle is run and at that point, it is too late....

Work on the new website is coming along nicely. It is now online and being populated with data. As it currently resembles a building site with stubs and half-completed rules sections everywhere, not to mention quite a few pieces of data that should be neatly tucked away out of most players' sights, we will not be unveiling it just yet.

*** Battle ***

The Flagritz Empire have mobilised to destroy what turned out to be a single FCN Crewmember.

Quite how unlucky that crewmember had to be to be selected for that particular mission remains a matter of some debate.

Interestingly though, reports indicate that the ground parties are being destroyed in the Twilight Periphery. Though we have no independent confirmation of that beyond their names, 'Twilight Teaser 5'.

*** IGN Reporters Get Wrong End Of Stick ***

It has been brought to our attention that our reporters misunderstood some information relating to the recent Wolfpack mercenary action against Garcia Enterprises, and that it had nothing to do with revenge for the COH outpost attack. Or something. Our reporters were too busy fighting off alien brain parasites at the time.

Solo claim swings back and forth

The situation in Solo appears to be getting even more heated. First the NHS dropped 600,000 troops to contest the system and then the DTR answered with enough troops of their own to trump the NHS claim. The NHS found yet more troops, taking the contesting claim up to 750,000 and once again the DTR answered, bringing Solo back under DTR control. Now the NHS have had a look down the back of the sofa and found yet more troops, taking the contesting claim to a massive 900,000 trained troops. We wait to see if the DTR have an answer to this. We can only guess where all these troops are coming from, but what is clear is that the established affiliations clearly have far larger armies than many thought.

NHS attempt to claim Solo away from DTR

In a shock move the NHS have contested the Solo claim with a huge garrison of 600,000 trained troops. In a move that nobody saw coming, especially as it was unknown the NHS had such a large force of troops to draw upon, the NHS seem to be provoking a response from the DTR. Currently there has been no word from the DTR in how they are going to deal with this claim jumping, although rumours are that they are pretending the Solo claim doesn't really matter to them and so action is unlikely. However this may be a smokescreen and we may yet see the DTR's powerful fleet cause havoc in the system of Solo, which has for a long time been an important junction and fought over by many different factions.

DNA Chairman TonTon resigns

The following communication has been leaked from the DNA to the GTT's PD.

Greetings CEO Fox.
It regrets me to have to inform to you that the DNA nation state will be renouncing its claim on Aladdin system following a ceremony planet side, shortly.
However, it gives me great pleasure to have to inform you that these ceremonies are being planned by Vladimir Tavikovitch, the South Road Traffic Coordinator. He is also responsible for all DNA and .ore. assets in the Outer Naplian (Capellan) periphery so if there are any further issues, please take it up with him.
For any and all other matters, please forward your request directly to the DNA directorate services at NexusID: DNA people.
The Foreign Ministry objects one last time to your illegal claim jump of Aladdin, but we realise it is time to de-escalate.
Normally i would sign off with Naambta, but doing so would be hypocritical. Let me say good riddance instead.
I hereby resign in protest!

Chairman TonTon,
Foreign Minister, DNA
cc: Directorate Services personnel coordinator - !urgent resignation!

DTR threaten WMB with fines for multiple breaches of DTR Law

Lady Sylvansight of the DTR has issued a fine of 1,000,000 stellars to the Wimbles for multiple breaches of DTR Penal and Territorial Law. This seems a very brave move of the DTR to risk upsetting the huge and warlike WMB when they also have the rival NHS Solo system claim to deal with. No word has been recieved yet that the Wimbles are going to pay, but if the formidable WMB warfleet is seen heading for the DTR home systems we will know what their thought are on the matter. The DTR and WMB fleets going head to head would be a sight to behold.

DNA and GTT clash over Aladdin system claim while Pirates look on.

The GTT have this week launched an attack on the DNA outpost in Aladdin, in what appears to be little more than a turkey shoot. Around 100,000 GTT Naplian Startroopers attacked the DNA position to remove the rival system claim. Reports indicate the DNA garrison were taken by surprise and lost control of the base in the first few hours of the fighting. The base has since been reflagged from [Free Naplian Capital] Peaceful Protest to [Loyal Naplian Capital] DNA claim Ended so it's fair to say there was a clear message being sent by the GTT. We have been waiting for the DNA leadership to comment but so far they have been unusually silent. No doubt when they have crawled out from under their desks they will have something to say on the matter.

While this attack was going on several pirate ships were also seen in Aladdin, according to the GTT in what may be true or may be a diversion, with reports of a pirate GP and scout being destroyed while a 150HH pirate warship slipped away and escaped from incoming anti-pirate patrols.

Secret meeting of the EEM

A recent communication intercepted by one of our top reporters today made us aware of a meeting of the EEM. This is underway in a top secret location called Black Pool, which sounds suspiciously like the lair of a pirate band. After pulling in many favours, we were able to identify some of the attending members. On the bases that they won't be named we were able to find out some slight information of the subjects to be discussed at the meeting and one thing is for certain, there could be huge impacts to the lives of everybody living in the galaxy. Details to follow. When the shadowy figures of the EEM come together with the top political players in a pirate base the possibilities are endless!

You are never more than 6 systems from a RAT ðŸ€

A new saying has arisen in the bars and spaceport of starbases throughout the many peripheries; you are never more than 6 systems from a RAT.

It is understood that this saying originated in Yank and spread by trade vessels to peripheries far and wide. Many starbases have heightened their security and added additional sensors and locks to various entry points including foul and grey water outfalls. Beer and drug stocks are undergoing increased proofing to avoid the critters gaining entry and consuming the stockpiles.

Will this present as a new plague of proportions never before seen or is this some simple urban myth being spread for the amusement of some mischievous entity? Who knows, but to be certain... check the shadows.

This year we will again be returning to the Briardene Hotel. They were welcoming, the bar didn't run out of beer pre-covid and there was room for quiet chats. Along with Wetherspoons there is the Victoria just down the road (Sam Smiths - last time beer was around 2 shillings per pint and a full round was less than £10).

Mostly drinking beer and talking toot though we have a good few things on the agenda.

Dog days are over

With the fall of the DEN and the implosion of their home territory as the AFT, DTR and GTT moved in, it was unlikely the Dewiek would rise again. The DWP gave the species a little hope with the Dewiek Pocket Periphery kept under lock and key. But news has reached us of the AFT's penetration of this private area of space that's been locked down. With a base and claim in one of the three visible systems it seems that the end of the Dewiek is near. A once noble and aggressive race, determined to make an impact on the galaxy is now little more than a species that lives under the command of others. A sad end to a once powerful species that used to control a significant part of known space.

Pirate activity continues

Yet more reports of pirate activity have been received, one from the WMB, losing a freighter in Solo and another from the FET who reported they had engaged and hit the attacking pirate ship with several weapons before it managed to make off with it's prize. Hopefully the pirate ship took significant damage and will now be out of action for some time. The Corewards periphery seems to have been plagued with pirates recently and many travellers would welcome a break from attacks.

MEK incursion into Corewards

The FET and GTT have mounted a joint venture into Nog-Kesri to tackle a MEK force. It isn't known where they have come from, with the only other MEK ships seen so far being located in the Orion Spur. The lack of a known link between where they have appeared in Corewards and the Orion Spur has caused some concern among planetary populations as who knows where they could turn up next! Fortunately the combined FET/GTT task force dealt the MEK a heavy blow and the threat has been eradicated. But we all know this is unlikely to be the last we hear of the MEK in Corwards and we would encourage ship captains to keep a keen eye on thier sensor screens when travelling near Nog-Kesri.

    Aladdin faces ongoing DNA/GTT tension

The tensions between the DNA and GTT in the Coptuv system recently spilled over into the DNA system of Aladdin. A significant party of GTT ground troops has reinforced one of their bases in the system and claimed it, forcing the system claim into turmoil as the DNA finds itself under threat of losing the system. With the DNA chairman asking for help, several affiliations have been seen sending ships to evacuate any in the local population that want to escape the GTT. But so far not a shot has been fired and despite the AFT, FEL and DTR assistance no reisistance to the claim jump has been encountered so far. It remains to be seen if the DNA and it's friends will scatter before this hostile take over or put in a last minute counter claim to thwart GTT intentions.

    Increasing pirate activity

Recent reports indicate a new surge in pirate attacks with the AFT and GTT reporting ships lost. Knowing how some don't like to advertise losses we wouldn't be surprised if this is the tip of the iceberg. Reports passed to us show the ship PIR Scavenger running ID 43174 and another ship of the same name running ID 68668 have both been in action with successful boarding attempts. It's unknown whether these are seperate ships or the same ship reregistered, but our information suggests that it would be hard for these pirates to cover the space where these attacks happened with just one ship. One thing is for sure, be on your guard as open space is not as safe as it once was.

GCE ships loitering in deep space

After the fall of the GCE and a lot of their assets being shared or purchased it was thought that the affiliation was no more. Yet deep space scans indicate that there is still a significant number of GCE warships holding station in deep space between Coptuv and Yank on the transport route into the Corwards Arm. Nobody knows what these ships are up to and why they are still flagged GCE, but our best guess is that are captains either awaiting new orders or owners after the fall of the GCE command structure.

    Tension in the Corewards Arm

With the DNA obtaining several ex-GCE bases in the Coreward Arm it has found itself in the middle of an asset grab of serious proportions and aggression. Our reporters witnessed several GTT troop carriers heading for the Corewards system as the DNA published information suggesting they were accidental owners of the system and that the assets were to be moved on. As the GTT ships started to arrive the bases were quickly passed to the CIA, thus thwarting the GTT intentions as they were hardly likely to start dropping troops on their allies bases. This shrew move by the DNA seems to have calmed matters in the Coreward arm temporarily, although the shift in relations between the GTT and DNA has taken a negative turn. When asked what their next move might be the GTT refused to comment.

    GCE collapse

The GCE are no more, save for some scattered light freighters. The affiliation which enjoyed a sharp rise and profiltable relations with many has ceased trading. Rumors point to the GTT buying up GCE assets before stripping the rival corporation of anything of value. Although our reporters at the SSS have been quick to point out that any GCE assets not in GTT systems have been taken over by both the DNA and FET. So it seems many different affiliations were able to profit from this development including a new group called the HSH who appear to have taken over the GCE war fleet. No doubt many in the peripheries will be watching with interest where these ships are used, who the HSH are and how they were able to get thier hands on so many warships so quickly.

    Secudus trials

In the Cluster Secudus has continued his trials, claiming to root out terrorists working against the Empire. With tends of thousands of beings being sent to the camps or worse. There is no sign of these actions stopping as the NHS clamp down on the locals and bring them under the harsh control of the Empire.

    Persistent Browser-Based Game (PBBG)

I’ve played on and off for approximately 10 years, over a 20 year spell. After some interesting debate on the in-game forum, I did wonder what, exactly, has kept drawing me back to the game, when for so many others I’ve generally lost interest after a few months.

Ultimately, I think it is a combination of automation (that allows the game to handle thousands of positions to interact on a daily basis) coupled with Special Actions (that allow the story arc to develop in a way that could not be catered for by a set of predefined list of available orders).
