******BSE Newsletter October 1992****** ***Bug Reports*** There area few bugs still in the programs. The main one seems to be with the AFT special ability which seems to work sometimes and not others. We will have a long look at it this week and see if we cannot fix this intermittent fault. For the colony governors, the bug with factories not using energy we will also try to sort this one out. ***Dorn*** The system number for Dorn is 151 and not 179 as printed on the system maps. Please amend you records as appropriate. ***Player Run Newsletter*** BSE now has its own player run newsletter, a copy of the first issue should be enclosed. Anybody can send messages, articles, or anything which is to do with BSE for publication. Affiliations should have their information directors send an affiliation message. You can either send submissions to us with your turn or write directly to the editor: Richard Cozens, Fieldview, Swineshead Road, Frampton Fen, Boston, Lincs PE20 1SG ***Special Actions*** Special actions are supposed to cost a minimum of 10Tus each to perform and although I have not been charging or many of them but I am going to start from now on. There is no TU cost for writing additional information which goes with your other orders, such as telling me you are interacting with the Hyport or that the training you are performing is anti-boarding, etc. ***Colonies*** Several colony governors have had problems building or using the RTS. I have had a look at it and most do seem to be working correctly. The only thing I can think might be going wrong is that the outpost must be on the same world as the colony for the RTS to work. Also, when you set your production at factories, make sure that you have all the materials which are needed. Some items take other things in addition to metals. Also if you use EP you will lose a whole weeks production. It is better to set small amounts of items to build so tat you don't have to cancel it. The item number for stellars is 9999, I don't think the rules mention it. ***Free Starts*** The free set-up for a ship and two turns should really have had just one free turn. From the end of October the training manual will come with just one free turn so if you have any friends who wish to join BSE ask for their free start now. ***KJC News*** Enclosed with this turn should be a copy of KJC news - October. You will notice that some games are increasing in price from November 1st but there is no change for BSE. Also, payments over 45 pounds will be credited with an extra 10% credit. If you pay by credit card and want to take advantage of this, let me know when it is tome to pay, otherwise I will just charge you the normal 15 pounds. Thanks. ***First Class Issue 11*** This is now available. It contains news on all KJC Games and also has a section on BSE - Stellar Vacancies. Each issue costs 1.90. If you would like a copy let me know on your printout and I can charge it to your BSE account.

******BSE Newsletter November 1992****** With the October KJC News again plugging BSE and friends coming in from recommendations from existing players there have been a fair number of new ships starting. Affiliation recruitment officers should notice this in the new members section of your political printouts. At the moment I am processing all turns the day they arrive at our office but if the current trend continues, I may have problems on Monday when the new game week starts. This may mean that some will not go out until Tuesday. If this does happen, I plan on doing ships from outside the IK first as they have longer posting times. ***Large and Small Affiliations*** As you would expect some affiliations are more popular than others, especially the FET and IMP. I have put a message onto the Training Ships first turn advising players of this which has helped the smaller affiliations a little. It has been suggested that extra stellars could be given to encourage new players into less popular affiliations. I thought I would put it to players to say if they thought this was fair or not. ***First Turn Newsheet*** John Clink, the SMS affiliation leader suggested that it would be a good idea to give new players a newsheet explaining a little about BSE and some clues on what to do for the first few turns. This is an excellent idea and John is now writing a suitable piece. I also thought we could include a half page advert/message from each affiliation. This should be designed to appeal to new players and encourage them to join your affiliation rather than any other. Affiliation leaders could you arrange for your submission and send it to me for the middle of the month. Thanks John, an excellent idea. ***Jump Engine Swap*** When using the jump/thrust engine swap please write the number of JUMP engines you wish to take FROM either CARGO or ENGINE. Thanks. ***Extra Sensory Perception!*** Some players have been doing special actions which need me as GM to decide for them what they will do. Examples of this is doing a ground exploration and then asking me to pick a creature to examine. I am in a no win situation in cases like this. If I get you to examine which then attacks you then I get the blame and if I check it out first that is not fair. This also includes Jump movement. You must have the system number to jump into it. However, with probing of moons I will let you do a moon list and ten move to first moon, second moon etc. ***Second Ship*** If anybody is interested n starting a second or more ships ask me for a ship set-up form. Using this you can start another ship at the colony of your choice. Just give me the word, colony square, and colony name. Extra ships must belong to the same affiliation as the first. ***Intergalactic News*** I hope to include the second edition with this turn but if it is not enclosed then it has not arrived at our office in time. Please ask me for your copy next turn. Thanks. ***Telephone Exchange*** We have had a new telephone system put in here at KJC so if you have any questions you should be put through speedily to me. If possible, try not to ring on Mondays as that is the busiest day. ***First Class Issue Eleven*** I know I said this was available last time but we had another problem with our printer but this has now been fixed. Issue eleven is now half printed and will be ready in a couple of days time. If you want a copy please mention this with your next turn.

Subspace Static - 192 December

******BSE Newsletter December 1992****** ***Larger affiliations*** All affiliations seem to have had a rush of new members during November and hopefully this will continue into December. My idea of pushing new players into the smaller affiliations has been made redundant and was probably a bad idea anyway as several players pointed out. ***Hyports*** I thought I would mention Hyports as several players seem to be unsure as to how to use them. With a Hyport your ship only (not ground parties) can do all transactions which you would do at a star port. These are the buy, sell, deliver, pickup and transfer training. You cannot do gambling, ship upgrades, etc. as these are from complexes which are located at the colony. You also do not get a market report. If you wish to transact with the hyport just write either in the line above the action or in a special orders box and an arrow 'use colony hyport'. You must give the colony number of whos hyport you are using. This is very important as at some planets there are several. ***Inflation*** Colony governors set prices and amounts depending on the situation as they see it. This can sometimes mean sharp increases in the process of some items. If you think this may happen to you, you can write in a special order box 'only buy if price is ## or less'. ***Restrictions on Hyport Activity*** The Hyport at Tortuga on the planet Dogleg will now only allow ships to dock with it once per turn. Colonists have limited amounts of items for sale so ships transferring huge amounts of goods between Hyports quickly exhaust stock levels leaving none left for other ships. I expect other colonies to adopt the same policy. ***Intergalactic News III*** This is now available and should be enclosed with your turn. |

Assassination!
Shocking news this week, as the RIP issued the following press release:
It is with great sadness and regret that I have to announce the following news.
At approximately 12.30 hours today RIP Periphery Director GT Spugman was assassinated by agents of an unknown power.
This act of callous murder has left the RIP without it's brilliant, vibrant leader and we all feel sadder for that fact.
Our thoughts go out to his family... wherever they are.
A book of condolence and remembrance will be placed at the Jiggly Room for public expressions of grief.
From this time forward RIP Emergency Protocol Two will be initiated.
Mona Luvsitt
Secretary to the office of the late GT Spugman - RIP PD.

Perhaps unsurprisingly following the outcome of the duel, the Dewiek Elder Nation have declared war against the House LiQuan.
Meklan Scandal
The Meklanisation of the Baron LiQuan continues to cause shockwaves this week, with the Baron forced to make the following public statement where he confesses that he has indeed had himself converted into a Meklan, and that it wasn't a look-a-like that took part in the duel against Eldar Silvermane.

Confederacy On Brink Of (further) Civil War
From the IMP News Wire:
Showdown at House LiQuan enters its third week.
Our vid-man using his long range scope has caught a glimpse of Viceroy Krieger behind the Imperial barricades. Making his stand with the Empress' Isobella's Bodyguard and the rest of the Imperial Enclave.
In a recent action, a large Confederate Naval squadron entered orbit. Several ships landed at House LiQuan's starport and a delegation of heavily armed veteran troops of the Confederate Navy went straight to the Imperial palace.

RCF Ground Force Stomped
From the GTT News wire.
GTT Lewis Downtime R1 was attacked by an RCF ground party consisting of 6 Kastorian Crew and 76 Kastorian Mercenaries. But the rebels found themselves on the wrong end of the tiger and were completely wiped out by 50 Aquaphid Marines. Only 11 of the mercs managed to survive the first round of combat. GTT forces have said their only injury was Private Bkkmar who stubbed his toe during the celebration after the battle.

IMP Attack In Halo
A large Imperial-Bloc operation has taken place in the Hittite system against RCF and COH facilities.
A very large number of IMP/GTT ships have entered and closed down the Hittite system in the Halo periphery.
First target to be hit was the COH base which has taken several days of fire. Some RCF ships were ordered to help support the base but found that the quads have been filled with IMP/GTT warships.
Some fighting saw 7 RCF ships destroyed (5 warships) and a number take damage.

House LiQuan
The Baron Liquan has released the following terse statement to the press:
"Due to the growing rift between the Imperial block and House Liquan we have ended are alliance with all the Imperial affiliations. Thank you for your time."
When bombarded with questions on what exactly this meant, the good baron was kind enough to elaborate further:
"I have a few messages about what has happened between the Imperial block and HLQ. So I don't have to answer these individually I will explain HLQ's point of view here.

Crusade
The Flagritz have finally launched a major attack on the Felini Starbase Foothold, in the Crusade system.
A fleet of fifty or so warships dropped into orbit and opened a heavy bombardment with Nova cannons and batteries. Heavy damage has reportedly been inflicted.
Three Felini outposts associated with the base have also come under fire, along with a small squadron of SMS Escort Carriers that are stranded beneath the base shielding.

OPS Accused Of Slavery
Falconian News Networks are carrying the following story:
"A House Magpie Patrol was sent to attack OPS warships above the orbit of the major slave base Harvester Hive. The 8 Warships encountered a force of 10 200NH OPS warships and an imbedded 300HH HLQ ship (a different one to that reported before). In the first days battle the FCN ships damaged many of the enemy but lost a 100HH ship. In the second days action the FCN forces withdrew but not before destroying a 200NH OPS ship. The quad was reinforced by large numbers of additional FLZ, OPS and HLQ leaving other areas vulnerable."
