*** Pirate Attack ***

A large pirate incursion has occurred in the St Dismas system.
Around forty pirate warships have engaged AFT assets in and around the orbit of the planet Springfield, prompting a significant response from the APTF.
The majority of pirate forces appear to have been operating under the Wolfpack Mercenary banner, although rumours suggest that up to three other pirate groups might have joined forces to stage the attack.
Fortunately for the AFT the pirates primary target, a large outpost, was very heavily shielded and able to resist the bombardment it came under. However, the pirates successfully destroyed four AFT freighters, before making good their escape.
Incoming APTF forces arrived too late to make an interception, although one pirate vessel did manage to fire off a few cheeky shots at incoming SMS heavy cruisers.
The pirates appear to have access to very advanced technology, including Mk2 railguns and APEX rounds, prompting more speculation about just who might be behind the Wolfpack mercenary company.

*** Peace Treaty Ratification ***
It is understood the signing of the warring human affiliations peace treaty is entering the final stages. The following are expected to be putting pen to paper and signing the treaty at an as yet undisclosed high-security location: Admiral Lord Simms, Imperial Viceroy, on behalf of the Imperial Services, Lord Angus Sivar, Speaker of the House of Lords, on behalf of the the Detinus Republic, Zuvoro Norozov, FET CEO, on behalf of the Frontier Exploration & Trade, Roland, Corporation CEO, on behalf of the Galactic Trade & Transport, Samuel Toridan, Director of Confederate Intelligence, on behalf of the Confederate Intelligence Agency, Thomas S Jackson, Supreme Commander, on behalf of the the Confederate Forces, Naz Kodrix, BHD Pontiff, on behalf of the Brotherhood, Baron LiQuan on behalf of the House LiQuan, the House Schwartz and the House Drake.

Following this each Starbase (current and future) in the Commonwealth (former Inner Empire and Inner Confederacy) will be asking the planetary populations to ratify this peace accord to the degree that anybody breaking the Peace Accord will be embargoed by the population.

*** Flagritz Chicken Shoot Continues ***
The Flagritz Empire continue to shoot up small Falconian scouts, this time destroying an Eel class scout and another small ground party in Twilight. Though it is understood the scout ship was crippled, and leaking radioactivity from its engine core at the time.
Meanwhile in Acropolis a lone FLZ shipping raider has attacked larger FCN warships, heavily outnumbered the FLZ warship was destroyed with all hands.

*** Nebula ***
The anomalous Nebula lighting up the skies above the Detinus Republic capital in the Venice system has dimmed significantly in recent days.

*** Outpost Destroyed ***
The Wolfpack Mercenaries have marked up yet another success, as they destroyed the GCE Outpost XE-5. It is not known how large the outpost was, or how many lives were lost.

*** Outpost Battle ***
Our reporters understand the QNG are still attempting to retake the outpost captured from them by the Wolfpack Mercenaries several weeks ago.

*** Pirate Destroyed ***
The pirate ground party Cyborg Liberation Front has been pinned and destroyed by SMS forces.

*** Outcasts ***

The Starbase Outcasts, once belonging to the GTT but then dramatically captured some time ago by the DTR, has been returned to GTT hands as part of the ongoing peace agreement.
It is understood the Adamski system will continue to be claimed by Outcasts, but now by the GTT on behalf of the DTR.
This move has cemented the peace treaty between the DTR and GTT, with relations between the two parties now understood to be almost cordial, with discussions underway regarding trade agreements.

*** Baseship Captured ***
In a story that may already have been reported on, the Felini have successfully captured the FLZ Baseship Vanus. An entire regiment of Felini Marines, numbering almost 1500, lead the assault, and were more than capable of defeating the 6 defending Flagritz marines.
The Vanus is an Overlord class Baseship, thus making it one of the 200 HH variants, and not the 200 NH.
The SMS are understood to have assisted in this operation by supplying a quantity of MkiV thrust engines.

*** Piracy ***
More pirate ground parties have been active this week, with Pirate Ground Party 24 buzzing SMS Convallis on airburst in the Ruin system. Several APTF SMS and CNF gunships turned up, but the pirates promptly went into hiding, and it took several more days to hunt down and destroy them. Although conflicting reports suggest that the pirates gave away their position when they launched an assault against the Starbase.

*** More Piracy ***
Pirate Ground Party 29 this time, buzzing the DTR installation of Zion, also in the Ruin system. This GP was destroyed by DTR ground forces.

*** FLZ Deny Piracy Allegations ***
The Flagritz Emperor has moved to deny rumours circulating in the press that they might be behind the recent scouting of SMS installations by Pirate Ground Parties by releasing the following statement to the press:
FLZ Announcement: Trade and Speculation
Trade
There have been a number requests about access to trade with FLZ Cliriq
Vision and FLZ Cliriq Sanctuary. The only affiliations with trading and
resident rights inside the FLZ Empire are the OPS and QNG. Barriers to
entry from other parts of the FLZ Empire have been put up by the Evil
Consortium.
Regular Trade Alternatives
It is our hope that the QNG may have excess FLZ items at their bases
outside of Twilight Periphery to re-sale to additional customers.
Cliriq Lijori(2875) in Solo is is our primary market outside the Empire
located within the great free market AFT space and we have vessels
arriving with goods there to on sell from time to time. We have many
recent customers including, DTR, QNG, AFT, RIP, WMB, FET, FEL (what the
Felini !) and are actively prepared to make markets with other
affiliations in different systems. We are growing this market in Solo
to benefit of all affiliations as part of the FLZ Trading strategy.
Special Consignments can be discussed and drop shipped if an attractive
proposal is received from anyone, well almost anyone.
Pirate activity mentioning FLZ black ops in SSS
The FLZ would like to quash any rumours that we are behind any pirate
activity against the SMS in Imperial Territory mentioned in SSS. Pirate
activity is against our Trading strategy in the Peripheries.

*** Yet More Piracy ***
Odd reports are coming in from Rebellion, where the Pirate Cyborg Liberation Army has been engaged with the RIP. Details are unclear at this time, but it seems the Pirates attacked the RIP outpost Jumping Bean, for reasons as yet unknown. It is unclear whether or not the pirates were successful.

*** Skirmish in Twilight ***
More 1-crew Falconian ground parties have been destroyed by the Flagritz empire in the Twilight periphery. By all accounts the FLZ are having a grand old time blasting huge craters in the jungles whenever they detect a FCN transmission.

*** Pin-Up Poster Porn-Star Pirate ***
It seems to have been a long time, but everybodies favourite psychopath Pirate Large has returned with more threats for the safety and sanity of the Peripheries:
“Ahhaarrgghhh me hearties................. it be aye..................... Pirate Large...................

*** Skirmish ***
Krell forces have been involved in a skirmish that appears to have involved both the Kastorians and the Falconians in the Skord system.
The Krell Broadsword Malevolence launched an attack against the FCN Outpost B on the planet Kindom, and appears to have been supported by the KAS platform Lilith, leading to rumours that the Krell and KAS might be working together.
The FCN outpost took moderate damage.

*** Sabotage ***
The FCN Outpost No Folly in the Storm system was the sight of a disaster this week when an unexplained explosion destroyed the outposts hiport, which then crashed to the ground, narrowly missing a number of civilian facilities.

*** Inner Empire ***
Relations between the DTR and the EEI are normalising following the destruction of the DTR diplomatic vessel and death of Marcus Rhodes, though warlike elements within the Republic are still demanding satisfaction.

*** Wolfpack ***
The Wolfpack Mercenaries have attacked and captured a QNG mining outpost in the Wastelands system.

*** Inner Empire ***
The System Message for Earth has been updated:

News Flash!
Earth under siege - for the first time in more than four hundred years,
Earth herself has come under direct barrage from orbit. This unprecedented
action has panicked billions of people and the Solar system is in uproar!
Who will save humanity for surely humans can't be trusted!
A statement by the Imperial Services!
This action was initiated by a ship arriving in Earth orbit with incorrect
battle computer settings. The captain is now awaiting Court Martial.
Only the GCS starbase was targeted and little damage was done as the
Starbase's shields absorbed 99.9% of the incomming fire. The only
colateral damage recorded was to a GCS ship in the starport. The Imperial
Services and their Allies regret this unfortunate accident.

News Flash!
Earth under siege - for the first time in a very long time, Earth herself
has a chance to be free. This unprecedented action has panicked the few
GCS leaders who were unable to escape.
While trapped they were unable to put into motion the plan that would have
laid waste to the whole Inner Empire and Killed Billions of Humans whos
only crime was to be alive.
The IMP/GTT saved Humanity when the GCS did not want to.

Welcome to the new version of ESNN (formally CSNN), giving the news and views from the former CSNN's reporter and news anchor, Ainsley Moore, making this the peripheries' most favourite unbiased publication in the known universe,

And so with the news,

***** Inter Galactic News *****

A Detinus expeditionary force is being assembled to liberate slaves in the Twilight Periphery. Stung by the wit of the Wimble Dinash, Admiral Bridge is leading a personal and sizeable force against the newly constituted Flagritz Republic.

The Wimble Bake Off has new competition with the Dominion instituting a Master Chef competition in the Orion Spur. This is all said to be a cover for further land grabs and in preparation for a move against the Hive and Dewiek, tipping the balance further in the Stellar Empire’s favour.

Meanwhile, the Wimbles struck off a number of hapless Wimbles under their new rules. To cement their plan to align themselves with the Stellar Empire, they have offered the services of their new masters to the Emperor.

Several hundred thousand slaves have been released by the Flagritz Republic but the terms of their manumission are unclear. Millions more await their emancipation. Many have refused to accept freedom without transit home, especially those brought in from outside peripheries. Many reportedly were captured by the Stellar Empire from the Detinus Republic and then sold on to the Flagritz.

***** Inter Galactic News *****

The ship PRV HarCop Omega has been reported both in Orion and Corewards. This was the flagship of the former League Chairman, sacked from the role when the League went into administration and quietly disappearing beyond the edge of known space. It is thought that his return may have been for a clandestine meeting with his former contacts in Harlong and Coptuv. If so then he clearly has an agenda.

Unconfirmed stories that the Pirate King of The Pirate Holes and Million Islands is near completing research on the various larger ships his pirates have successfully captured over the past few years (big thanks to all the affiliations that participated in 'donating' ships). If the rumours are true it is likely a new armada of pirate ships using more advanced technology will be found in Corewards in the near future.

An supernova has been detected originating from just beyond the Transpiral Periphery. The rare event has created ripples in the subspace of the nearby stars. Nobody has reported any tangible ramifications but this is the first supernova in the current age of the Peripheries so esoteric scientists are excited by the prospect of grants to study the relatively nearby phenomena.

*** Wimbles Crisis Solved ***

The Wimble Crisis of 217 has come to an end with the human Baron making way to the wimble Grandfather Paden Mastaak. Celebrations were held in Wimbledon upon the news with crack teams of Wimble security staff guarding all the pies.

It’s unclear how long the Wimbles will enjoy this new era of peace and self-determination.

Vocal Wimble Dinasha, one of Paden’s early backers, has chosen this precarious moment to bait Dewiek, Flagritz and humans who were initially disposed to be friendly to the new administration. Whilst the Wimbles' history with the former-slave-loving Flagritz could be understood, their animosity towards the Dewiek and humans was more mysterious. One insider alluded to a rise in the number of cases of foot-and-mouth across the herd as being a likely cause.

*** Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door ***

The stargates are closed! Reports from multiple sources indicate at least three of the stargates, all within Dewiek controlled systems, have been closed.

Two different sources have indicated that the TCA have been spotted recently in a number of systems and may be behind this turn of events. A scan sent to the SSS indicated eight TCA ships were recently spotted first in the Faery system and later near the Kasmer stargate.

Another source, suspiciously put the blame on the ARC, suggesting the ARC and DEN were working together because they “need to trap [the TCA] and try and finish them off after the DEN bodged their operation to protect the ARC while they incinerated the MEK homeworld, which ended up with several ARC ships being destroyed and the job only being half done."

However, with no public statement from the Dewiek themselves, its hard to know whether these rumours are reliable.

Lord Igor of the Dominion and Erasmus Andersen of the Garcia Family both offered public apologies at the delay in meeting their trade commitments because of the recent closures. The not-so-subtle subtext being that someone will pay with blood for this interference in their business. Or at least with a stealthy price rise.

*** Videtis quantum scelus contra rem publicam vobis nuntiatum sit? ***

The Flagritz Empire is no more! The Flagritz Republic is reborn! Quick on the heel of the collapse of the Empire, the Fessin caste declared a new era of foreign and economic policy with a rapid withdrawal behind the Black Gate.

The new ecologically-friendly Prime Minister Kayxaer, asked for patience as “economic” reforms were undertaken. It remains to be seen whether there will be any price to pay for the dramatic changes being made by the reclusive Flagritzi or whether it will all be sunshine and rainbows going forward.

Persistent Browser-Based Game (PBBG)

I’ve played on and off for approximately 10 years, over a 20 year spell. After some interesting debate on the in-game forum, I did wonder what, exactly, has kept drawing me back to the game, when for so many others I’ve generally lost interest after a few months.

Ultimately, I think it is a combination of automation (that allows the game to handle thousands of positions to interact on a daily basis) coupled with Special Actions (that allow the story arc to develop in a way that could not be catered for by a set of predefined list of available orders).
